application pool locks file

Hi,

I have an asp.net application running under the .net framework 2.0.

The application pool locks any image files if recently displayed in the
browser. So I am unable to update any of these files. If I recycle the
application pool however they are then released and can be updated.

Does anyone know if there is anyway to prevent them becoming locked in the
first place?

Best Regards

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Not sure if you can prevent them being locked in the first place, but
you might be able to release the locks without recycling the
application pool using something like Process Explorer from
SysInternals:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilitie...sExplorer.html

You can then close any file handles associated with aspnet_wp.exe and
update them, hopefully before they get locked again!

HTH,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply.

Do you (or does anyone) know of a tool or technique for doing this
programatically ?

Hi all I just cannot seem to find any documentation that shows an example of using the factory method Event() in threads. I have a thread pool and if there are no jobs in a Queue I want them to wait for something to be inserted. When a job is inserted I want to send an Event, the first thread that picks it up runs with the job the rest wait for another insert Event. I have been looking at some C, c++ implementations and some use a...

I have a problem, mentioned here before, of Session and Application variables disappearing at one site but not at others or on my development computer. The problem is illustrated by an example at http://www.lamartin.com/dotnet/sessiontestset.aspx, were I set Session, Application and Cache variables on the first page and then on the second page view them as the second page is refreshed every five seconds. Before 10 refreshes, the...

I have an ASP.NET application installed on a Windows Server 2003 computer. MS Excel is also installed on the same computer. And yes, the application makes use of Excel. When the Application Pool Identity for the pool in which this application resides is set to the default (NetworkService), everything runs as expected. However, for this application to work, it is necessary that I use a different user account. And when I do, there is a...

Hello all, Here is the context of my problem: We have an ASP.NET 1.1 application that has its own application pool setup and that runs under the identity of a NT Domain service account (this is for security reason when accessing databases). We use the Integrated Windows authentication to authenticate users, and we have setup the Web.config file to authenticate those users against 3 NT Domain Global Groups. Everything is working fine...

Hi, We are having a few problems with ASP.Net pages hanging during load when an Application Pool is recycled. To test this we have setup the following ASP.net page which refreshes every 2 seconds: <%@ Page language="c#" %> <%@ Import Namespace="System" %> <%@ Import Namespace="System.IO" %>

Yes, I wasted the past two days trying to fix this. Yes, this is on a Win2003 Server. Yes, this machine is a domain controller. Yes, I seen the dozens of KB articles like this one: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q315158 But the problem is that 99% of these are for ASP .NET 1.x and this is .NET 2.x which I just installed to try and get .net working for the first time ever. I've see all the HACKS to get .net 1.x...

I have a global.asax file with Application_Start defined and create some static data there and in another module used in the asp.net application and I realize that static data is shared amongst child apps of an IIS application and can be used by multiple users during the application life cycle and for multiple page loads for the same or different page under a root application. What I don't understand and need to know is whether that...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
