Greetings everyone,
Here is a random string generator I wrote for an application
and I'm wondering about the thread-safety of this function.
I was told using static and global variables cause
potential problems for thread-safety. So far, I'm only confused.
I need a proper explanation for the concept so I can understand how
to write thread-safe functions in the future.
My apologies for posting a long routine.

All,
I believe I am having a threading problem. Class "BELights" is part of a
larger DLL that is used by my main application. A user control (of type
BESeat) within the main application raises an event and attempts to execute
the "StartTiming" method of BELights. The method does not execute which
leads me to believe that BELights is not thread-safe. (Or is it the user
control that is not thread safe?)
When an event fires for...

I have been looking all over and have seen many possible ways to create a
Syncronized Shared Function in VB.NET, but I would like some advice that
will make my life easier. Given the following code how do I ensure that the
two methods are thread safe?
Public Class Class1
Public Shared Function addMe(ByVal i1 As Integer, ByVal i2 As Integer)
As Integer
Return i1 + i2
End Function

I'm having weird results with a form that is already displayed modally
(via ShowDialog) displaying a second form via ShowDialog. The last
form is not modal even though it's called with ShowDialog.
For example, given three forms:
Startup
Pop1
Pop2

Hello
I want to get the value of a property of a control from a thread other than the
thread the control was created on, as far as I can see this is not the same as
invoking an operation on a control on a different thread I have used the
following code as per the guidance in the msdn documentation to invoke an
operation on a control from a thread other than which it was created
delegate void SetFormCursorCallback(Cursor cursor);

Hi,
Can I use ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider and SqlRoleProvider at the same
time? I need to store the list of all my user/passwords in AD and users'
roles in SQL Server.
How is it possible?
Any help would be appreciated,

SUBJECT: How to make this program more efficient?
In my program, a thread will check update from server periodically and
generate a stl::map for other part of this program to read data from.
Let's name the update method as doUpdate and stl::map read methods as
getData and copyData.
Since stl::map is not thread-safe, we should do synchronization by
ourselves. A usable solution is to create a boost::mutex::scoped_lock
object in all above...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
