viewstate - datagrid - intermittent error....help

Hi-
I'm developing a asp.net web application and everything has proven fine

on the dev and acceptance environment.
We've moved the code up to our windows server 2003 prod environment and

get the following intermittent error when browsing the web page through

a client browser (the action causing this is paging though a datagrid-
although it randomly errors, rather than erroring all the time):
_______________ _
Invalid character in a Base-64 string
at System.Convert. FromBase64Strin g(String s) at
System.Web.UI.L osFormatter.Des erialize(String input) at
System.Web.UI.P age.LoadPageSta teFromPersisten ceMedium()
_______________ _
However if I run the application on the server itself I never get this
intermittent error. Whilst it is a load balanced environment I've
directed (within my host file) the browser to hit a specific server.
Also for good measure I've set the following:
enableViewState Mac="false"
within the page in question.
Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this. The intermittent
nature makes it all the more confusing.
many thanks
devo

Just one more bit of info- I mentioned that this error didn't occur
when running the browser on the server. I've just discovered that the
error does not occur when running accessing through a browser from
home. Hence the only time the error occurs is when I'm running the site
through a browser at work.
The web servers live in our DMZ and at work I access it behind the
company firewall.
Is this making any sense?

One other thing the viewstate is rather large at 16kb.

thanks
devo

I have a page that uses an in-place editable DataGrid that supports sorting and paging. EnableViewState is turned ON. At the top of the page are several search fields that allow the user to filter the results in the grid. Say you filter the grid for records that have a certain condition set to "NO" (in this case a checkbox). In this scenario the search returns one result. If I then check the checkbox ("YES") and save it, I now get my message...

I created a custom DataGridColumn based on Marcie Robillard's MSDN Article: Creating Custom Columns for the ASP.NET Datagrid http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnaspp/html/creatingcustomcolumns.asp The problem I am having is that the data in the custom datagridcolumn is not saved to viewstate and after postback, the column does not contain data.

Although I've been using C# for the last month or so, and accepting out of blind faith the ViewState, I do have some nagging questions about it... can you help verify the following statements? Application is across all sessions. Session is across all pages. ViewState is sort of like Session, but for only one page. <-- Correct statement? Session is stored between page requests, somewhere in mem or IIS files --

Hello, I have a page with two link buttons. When I click on the first one I call server.execute("target.aspx") to view target.aspx on the original page. Then I click on the second link button and in this case I redirect to another page, HOWEVER, I get Invalid ViewState exception. I know the problem stems from server.execute but don't know why. Any Ideas? Thank you.

I have created a server control that reads data from an xml file and renders either a datagrid of entries from a database or group of form controls to allow editing of an individual entry from the same database. The Xml defines how the datagrid and edit form looks and what fields each displays. The edit form display is perfect but I am having some problems with the datagrid list display. The datagrid has sorting and pagination enabled and...

I am receiving an Invalid ViewState error after posting back to the same page twice. Consistently the error occurs after the second postback and not after the first. I have looked into creating a static machinekey in the machine.config and that did not help. I believe that issue only occurred when there was an inconsistent viewstate error. The error I am faced with consistently occurs. Are there any known problems with the ViewState...

Hi All: I am trying to create a variation on the standard datagrid, whereby the datagrid is only shown after pressing some buttons. This reason for this is that I would like to use the same datagrid for several tables, and the idea is that the button events store the the SQL select statement and the SQL update statement in view state items, which can the be reused for all the datagrid events (paging and editing). However I seem to...

Can someone please tell me when the ViewState is loaded? My understanding, based on http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/cpguide/html/cpconControlExecutionLifecycle.asp is that it should be loaded before the Page_Load event, however, given the following code I don't get the expected results. private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { if (Page.IsPostBack & ViewState != null)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
