List categories AND records at once...

Hi!

I have a SQL database with products stored in different categories.
When I click a category, I want to list all the subcategories WITH their
products.

Like this:

SubCategory 1 Name
Product 1
Product 2
Product 3

SubCategory 2 Name
Product 1
Product 2
Product 3

SubCategory 3 Name
Product 1
Product 2
Product 3
How is the "correct" way to do this in asp.net (VB.net)?
Thanks for all tips?

You can easily use a Treeview webcontrol for that just BIND it to the any
datasource of your choice.
e.g Xml,DB etc..
Hope that helps

Hello, So my table contains say 100,000 records, and I need to group the categories in fld1 by the highest count of subcategories. Say fld1 contains categories A, B, C, D, E. All of these categories contain subcategories AA, AB, AC, AD,...AJ, BA, BB...BJ, CA, CB, CC...CJ, etc in fld2. I am counting how many subcategories are listed for each category. Like

Hi I have a listbox in a form which has been set on multiselect simple. If I select some of the items on the list on day1, save and exit, and return on day2, the items I selected on day1 do not remain highlighted. How do I ensure that when I return to the form on day2, that the items I selected on day1 are still highlighted? Thanks, Silvia

Hi all, I am new to the list and I didn't want to seem rude at all so I wanted to ask if this was okay first. I have a program I have written in perl which uses a postgresSQL database as the backend. The program works but the performance is really bad. I have been reading as much as I can on optimizing performance but still it isn't very reasonable. At one point I had my program able to process 175,000 records in 16min 10sec on a...

Hi, I am trying to populate a list control that is bound to a data table but the display member needs to come from a different data table. I have two list controls in C#, one displaying available categories and one displaying selected categories. In the database these are represented in two tables, the available category table has an ID and a Name. The other table is a category links table that has an ID, Category_ID and a Book_ID.

I have a form which lists all records for the user to choose which ones to print. Its a continuous form with a checkbox for each record, bound to a "selected" yes/no field in the table. This works well for what it is, however I really want to split my list into categories. I can do this in reports but don't know how in forms and searching has been unsuccessful. In my table I have fields for FoodCategory, RecipeName, Selected, and some others. I...

Good day all, I am working on a multi-select list box for a standard question checklist database and I am running into a syntax error in the code that I cannot seem to correct. I will also note that I am using Allen Browne's multi-select list box for a report as a guide. I should also note that my access skills are not the best so I may need some explaining on certain things. First let me give some background on the database: I have a...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
