Hello,
If I have a page that contains (say) a Literal control and a custom
control, can the code in the custom control set the value of the
Literal?
I tried doing this in the custom control...
Literal litPageNo = (Literal)this.P arent.FindContr ol("litPageNo") ;
to get a reference to the Literal, but this came back null. I tried
removing the Parent, but that did the same.
How can this be done? TIA

You're breaking the notion of encapsulation by taking this approach. I'd
suggest having your control raise an event, the page then handles the event
and then does the update on its own control.

Or if the custom control *always* needs a literal control, add a
property to it. That way you've got the reference that you need.

I realised this last night. I was still thinking in the Classic ASP way,
not the ASP.NET way. I still hadn't worked out the best way to pass the
info back, but...

Well, the control generates some information that the parent page is
likely (but not forced) to use. A property is an ideal answer to that as
it allows the parent page to get the info without forcing it back, and
without insisting on it having the literal or capturing an event.
Thanks to both of you.

Hello,
I have a products page that takes a product ID in the query string.
Based on the product details (from a database), the page then loads up
one of a number of custom controls, calls a method in the control (that
displays product info) and then loads the control into a placeholder so
it will be displayed.
I want to be able to restore the state of the controls in the custom
control, but can't get it to work. For example, the...

Hello All-
I've got a Custom Web Control that with a public class that that sets a
private variable inside the class. I plop the custom control onto my
page and off I go. From my main page, I call the
customPage.loadPage(10) and pass in a value of 10. The loadPage method
sets var1 = 10 as expected; however, when the customPage's button is
clicked and the page is posted back, var1 is set back to it's initial
state of -1.

I created a custom server control that derives from WebControl. I found
Parent and Page property are null for the control I created. But Parent
is a readonly property so that I have no way to assign it a proper value.
By the way, I did no create a constructor for my custom control. I did
not override OnInit() method as well.
Could some one point out what I am doing wrong.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
