I have a .net client/server application using remoting, and I cannot get the
custom exception class to pass from the server to the client. The custom
exception is derived from ApplicationException and is defined in an assembly
common to the client and server components. The custom class merely defines
three (3) constructors -- the null constructor; one with a string parameter;
and one with a string and innner exception parameter -- that...

I had build an installer project for my ASP.NET project. And found that
several fields need to be configured, like the web.config files and etc,
which requires user input. Also I need to attach my database using the
installer project, anybody could suggest how I could perform similar action?
One of my idea is to build a winform project which accepts athe user input
and configure the fields during installation, but I had no idea how...

Hello All.
I have a windows service, that monitors file directory.
Now I'm trying to create custom install wizard for this service. I added
projectinstaller class to my application, where I specified properties like
ServiceName, DisplayName and so on.
What I like to do, is to add one more dialog screen with the test box and
"Browse" button to the installation wizard and provide user with the ability
to select/change service monitoring...

I have a deployment project that I'm setting up. I need to perform a
different custom action based on whether this is a first time install or an
update. Does anyone have any idea if it's possible to set the Condition
property of a custom action to determine if the currently running install is
upgrading a previous installation and if so how? I'm also open to other
methods of acheiving this functionality.

I cannot get this to work. I added an app.config to a project i reference
from my web application project (vs 05) but can see no way to access the
settings within it.
the other thing is that I expected this config file (.dll.config) to get put
in my web app's bin folder along with it's .dll file when i did a build, and
that didnt' happen either.
do I have access to the app.config in my project or is it worthless? If so
why can i add...

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is precisely the correct newsgroup for this, so I
apologize if it isn't..
Scenario: a WinForms app written in VS.NET 2005 (C#) and installed via a
Setup and Deployment project.
This is an upgrade of an old VB6 app which used the Registry to persist
certain data, but the C# app doesn't use the Registry - it uses the

When creating a new VB Web Application Project with VS2008, there are several
settings (compiler settings, option strict, etc) that appear both in the
web.config file and "My Project". I'm wondering what takes precedent, what
the benefit of using one vs. the other is, and what happens if they conflict?

Hi,
i'm developing a solution in VS9/CSharp. Now I'm constructing a
deployment project for my appliation (thick, database driven,
winforms, standard, good old type of application).
During installation I also install the PostgreSQL database and along
with that I need to execute some Custom Actions. I've created a Custom
Installer component in CSharp and calls it on Install/Rollback/
uninstall and everything works great (Custom Actions...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
