Could not lock file error

I am very new to working with Visual Studio, and I am trying to display
information from a MS Access database in an asp webform.

The adapter, connection, dataset, and datagrid setup have been no problem. I
am even able to preview the information, and it is correct.

When I build I get no errors, but when I run I am getting a server error,
"Could not lock file."

I am not sure if this is something I need to fix on the access side or on
the VS side. Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like a permissions problem where the ASPNET account doesn't have
write permissions to the folder where the Access file is located. As the
designer, you would have permissions, but at runtime, the ASPNET user comes
into play.

Impersonation might get you going...

Today I went to compile a solution I've been working on for months. I've been off most of the last few months, so there's been a gap in the work, but I did compile it a few times earlier this week. Today I get a message: Could not write to output file 'D:\DevelopmentProjects\Enterprise\CustomUtilities\obj\Debug\CustomUtilities ..dll' -- 'The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. I've read a couple of threads on this error but none of them could help me so I'm posting myself. When I try open and read (not update) an ACCESS database on a network share I occasionally get: "Could not use ''; file already in use." error. This always happens when the database is open but sometimes even when it's not. Not manually anyway. I consequently use DataAdapter.Fill() method which

Hey All, I am using multiple child threads per main thread to download files. It sometimes appears as if the same file is being downloaded twice. I am using "lock". Am I using it correctly? Any blantant threading errors here? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. namespace MainThreadManagement

Is there any way to forcibly release a lock on a text file, so that it can be deleted? I am testing an order-processing site that saves transaction information in a text file that it attaches to its merchant notification. In most cases, it works fine, but occasionally a lock on the text file won't get released. When the next transaction comes along and tries to write over the file, the server throws an IO error, saying that the file is...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
