I wish to build a framework for our developers that will include a singleton
pattern.
But it can not be a base class because it has a private constructor and
therefore can be inherit.
I thought maybe a Template can be use for that, but C# does not support
Templates (will be C# generics in mid 2005).
Does anyone have a solution on how the singleton pattern can be written, in
C#, as a framework/ infrastructure class, so users can use this...

Hello all,
Wonder what approach is used for this problem.
I have a MDIApplication, the MDIClinets are to be in a seperate thread.
So I've done something like this,
// Create a new Show method that starts a new thread
public new void Show()
{
Thread t = new Thread(new ThreadStart(ThreadProc));

i am trying to create a custom Combobox from scratch.
this requires that i create the list that the combobox
opens. i've used the ListBox control to do this.
my problem is that i don't know how to "Pop" the list
without it being on a form, but a form can be accessed
through ALT-TAB and Task Manager. and it creates problems.
so can anybody tell me how i can create the list without

I would normally use code such as :
Dim Customer as new Customer
Dim t as new threading.thread(AddressOf Customer.DisplayCustomer)
Customer.CustomerId=MyCustomerId
t.start
Which would create a new thread to display a customer on the screen for example.
However, I have a problem with circular references in my objects which means that I have to load the customer object using reflection ie :

Hi,
I have a VB.NET Service application that's running fine under the Local
System account. But for configuration purposes I don't want to be dependent
on modifying the registry manually or using an seperate application (like I
do now).
I want to implement a system tray icon when someone logs on to the console.
I've tried several samples but I can't get the icon to the system tray. I
know there are some issues because the logged on...

Hello!
I will create a window service but wonder if a good solution is to start
with a console application or windows application with forms even when I
have no output to produce. I might use output in debug purpose and when this
console or windows forms application works as expected I just copy relevant
pieces to a window service source code.
Is this a good start?

I'm making an app that inputs into multiple tables. I'm using the
SCOPE_IDENTITY() SQL function for foreign key purposes. I input into the
main table first and retrieve the scope_identity() and then insert into
related tables using the scope_identity() number as the foregin key entry
for each table.
Each of these inputs is done within the code for seperate buttons. How do I
create a variable (a string type) I can use throughout the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
