Hi,
we have some major GC issues at present with a system we're trying to
put live. It's a live calculation engine that's distributed across
about 30 Java server processes. A set of processes called
objectservers sit between the core infra and a Sybase DB. Two of the
main objectservers are set up with 2Gb Heaps as they need to cache
large amounts of objects and accept 500-600 incoming RMI connections
when heavily loaded. We're running the...

Hi,
I am having problems getting anything useful out of the index tuning
wizard.
I have created a table and inserted data into it. When i run the index
tuning wizard i expect 2 indexes to be recommended so the book says
(Index011 with a key on the uniqueid column and a non clustered index
named table02 with a key on the col03 and LongCol02)
Instead i get nothing being recommended.

I am running an asp.net v1.1 application on windows 2003 with dual
Intel chips that support Hyper-Threading Technology.
Some machine.config parameters state that I should multiply the value
by the number of CPUs.
In this case should I use the actual number of CPUs (2) or the number
of CPUs that show up in taskmanager?
Like wise, when .net calculates the number of cpus for determining the

Xeon hyperthreaded CPUs show up as two CPUs in the cpuinfo file.
So a dual Xeon machine appears as a quad processor.
In Windows, it's the same thing.
A dual Xeon will have 4 CPU charts showing in the Task Manager cpu chart.
Ok, then question.

Does anyone have some more detailed information about how Oracle and MS
implement / allow Tuning on Oracle 10g and SQL Server 2005 and the
differences between them?
Which of them, In a deep comparison about it, allow better tuning and
why.

I have been unsuccessful locating information about the maximum number
of CPU's SQL Server 2005 Enterprise supports.
However I did find info in a document about configuring a fail over
cluster solution. It said 4 CPUs, but it is unclear how that works out
with multi core processors.
Is it 4 sockets? So with a quad core quad socket we could go have a 16
core system?
BTW the chart shows the CPU count jumping to 64 CPU's under Server
2003...

Hi,
I'm currently developing an application that uses a lot of
computational power, disk access and memory caching (to be more exact:
an information retrieval platform). In these kind of applications the
last thing that remains is bare performance tuning.
So for example, you can do an 'if then else' on a bit like a 'case/
switch', an 'if/then/else' and as a multiplication with a static
buffer. Or, you can do sorting with an inline...

In 9.1 and 9.5 (Linux 64 bit) when a buffer pool is set to self-
tuning, how are blocks configured in respect to blocked vs non-blocked
when self-tuning is set to on?
(ie) I have one bufferpool that is 16k that the IBMDEFAULTBP is shared
between all tablespaces.
The data tablespace has prefetch automatic set to on.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
