Could someone explain, Caching.
I understand Caching as simply saving a copy of something that is unlikely
to change and to which you frequently refer as opposed to retrieving a fresh
copy every time... like throwing something into Application in
ASP3. Now that Iam all "up to date" everyone wants to Cache everything
because its "good shit!".
How is Cached data any different than data you place in a globally accesible
variable?

I have an ASP.NET page that spawns a popup window using
javascript's window.open. This works fine. It pops up,
you enter some data, press save and everything saves as
it should. But, if you click the button to open the
popup again, then it opens with the values that were in
it before the "save" was executed. I've determined that
the problem is that IE is storing the page in it's local
temporary internet files cache and isn't going to...

I have a site where I have only one page and lots of user controls. Rather
than passing parameters into the page (mysite/default.aspx?MenuID=123), I
pass in a url like this (mysite/products-greenwidgets.aspx). then in the
global.asax I intercept the url coming in and convert it to a parameter url
like this (mysite/default.aspx?MenuID=greenwidgets). then when the
default.aspx page loads, it passes "greenwidgets" to the database and gets a...

Is anyone using Caching (HttpRuntime.Cache) in Whidbey? Not sure if there's
another newsgroup for this though since it's still beta....
I'm having issues running a system built on 1.1 in a 2.0 environment...
Simple (I think!!) use of the Cache as below,
BOSContext bosContext = new BOSContext();
StringBuilder Html = new StringBuilder();

We are building a system with ASP.NET. Currently running
through the optimisation of the system using different caching
mechanisms. Were using Linux LBS for load balancing - this does not
employ sticky sessions. So my question is this - what caching
techniques can we use if we don't have sticky sessions across the
load balances web servers?
Thanks in advance

I need to implement caching for a large enterprise application and we are
planning to use the newest Caching Application Blocks. (Enterprise Library
Jan. 2006)
We want to cache Business Entities (DTO's) at the service layer and have a
few questions.
Are there other options than using Microsoft Caching blocks - possibly open
source?

Hello!
In my application I have a need for using a regular expression now and then.
Often the same regular expression must be used multiple times. For
performance reasons I use the RegexOptions.Compiled when I instantiate it.
It must be obvious that it takes some time to instantiate such an object.
My question is, does the Regex instantiation somehow deal with some caching
internally so instantiating a Regex object multiple times...

I had a couple questions about data caching. We have a site that gets
a huge amount of traffic to a few specific pages that have a lot of
data on them (300k hits/hour during peak, about 6-10 data calls per
page OR 500 SQL calls per second). Most of the data doesn't change
more than once ever 10 minutes. Basically they are data islands with
specific content. We have already implemented a singleton that
manages a connection pool. This...

I'm using ASP.Net with an UpdatePanel. When the screen is exercised via a
Web Test, the Web Test shows that the AJAX scripts are downloaded for every
partial post back.
My impression was that IE would cache these scripts so that the AJAX script
download would only occur once.
What am I missing?

I have a question about ASP.NET output caching.
I want to use screen scraping as a temporary hack to pull in some complex
Classic ASP-rendered content into some ASP.NET pages:
protected String ReadHtmlPage(string url)
{
WebResponse objResponse;
WebRequest objRequest = System.Net.HttpWebRequest.Create(url);
objResponse = objRequest.GetResponse();

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
