Is there a way to set the application binding policy so
that it always binds to the latest version of an
assembly? I'm hoping there is a way to avoid updating the
application's binding configuration every time there is
an update to a shared assembly.

I know the general purpose for the GAC is to share a component among many applications. But even when you add something to the GAC, you still have to manually create a reference to the DLL in your project (right?). So what have I gained by adding it to the GAC?

Hi,
I am trying to prevent an assembly being loaded from GAC and instead want it
loaded from the application's base directory. However, the assembly always
gets loaded from GAC. How to have it loaded from the application directory?
I read about the bindingRedirect trick in the NG, however, specifying
bindingRedirect did not work for me....

I'm playing with late binding and trying a very simple test to load an
assembly
In my "Host" application I have this code:
<code>
string modulePath =
@"C:\PMDRepository\Tools\ManfBusProcMgr\Modules\TestModule\bin\Debug\TestModule";
Assembly a = Assembly.Load(modulePath);

I have created a class that implements IHttpModule and I want to use the
module on several of the web sites that exist on my server. The module works
great if I place the dll in a web applications bin directory. However, I
can’t get it to work at all from the GAC. If I remove the dll from the web
applications bin file, I get the following...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not.
