I administer three IIS6 servers for a large company where the
programmers are now requesting that we change the password for the
local aspnet user account on the server to a known password (no longer
windows controlled).
Can I expect any additional fallout from this change - or is this
relatively a benign change?
I am assuming all I have to do is go into Computer Management, Local
Users and Groups and set password on the aspnet...

Windows Server 2003 is supposed to include Framework 1.1 right. I don't
have it here but have reports that the web is not running.
The users say that the %COMPUTERNAME%\ASPNET user doesn't exist.
Questions:
1. is this user replaced by the %COMPUTERNAME%\NETWORK SERVICE user in
Windows 2003 Server (IIS6)?
2. if the ASPNET user still needed to run .NET apps and it's missing, how
would you add to a Windows 2003 Server box?

I have an ASP.NET application that writes to a log file in a directory outside the webapp directory (e.g. c:\program files\myapp\logs). OS is Windows 2003
If I see the list of users in the "Security" tab for the 'logs' directory, I see that <localmachine>\Users already exists. Now, <localmachine>\ASPNET is a part of this 'Users' group. But this group does not have write access to the 'logs' directory. I think this is the default setting...

Can the ASPNET user be deleted on an end user's machine that will run .NET
applications?
I heard someone say it was only needed on the developers machine. Sounded
