detecting session timeout in Session_End

Session_End (global.aspx) is called when Session.Abandon () gets called
explicitly, or when the Session times out (20 minutes by default).

Is there a way to tell which event caused Session_End to be called from
within Session_End?

I can think of some "tricks" (adding a "closing" item to the session just
before doing a Session.Abandon (), for example) but is there a clean way to
do it?

- I'm using .NET Framework 1.1. I just noticed that whenever I change the value of Session.Timeout (no matter which aspx page this happens on), at the end of the request, the 'Session_End' function gets called in my global.asax code. --More specifically, it only happens when the page is setting the value of the timeout to a value different than what it currently is.-- Yet, the session remains alive, and any variables stored in the...

Hi everyone, I need some help (may be in the form of some sample code) for the subject question. I have an ASP.NET/C# application. I need to do quite a few tasks when the session ends. I don't want to depend on the session timeout factor since it may end too soon or it may hang around too long. I can't find any event that fires when the browser closes. The Session_End event handler in the Global.asax does not execute until the...

Hello, I am creating a pdf via some code. Now when the pdf is created, I assign the filename to a session variable and open a new window with the pdf. Now when the user closes the pdf window, I would like to delete the file. I was thinking to check for the session variable in the global.asax.vb in the session_end. However when I close the pdf the session_end is never called. Is there any way to do that?

I realize that I can handle "SessionEnd" from global.asax ... but it appears to me that this gets called without the context of a current web request. So given the following scenario: User logs in and session starts User is inactive longer than the session timeout setting Some thread, not associated with a request, detects the timeout and raises Session_End() The User comes back to the site presenting a timed-out session id ASP.NET...

Hi, I am facing a problem of automatic session timeout problem and automatic session_end event fired. Case1: As I have analyzed I get to know that the default session timeout is 20 in web.config, If I reassign the session timeout at login page other than the time which is defined at web.config(20 Min.) then automatic session_end (in global.aspx.cs) event fired. Why automatic this event is fired??

Howdy, is the Session_End event a guarantee event to be fired? I have this memory of back in ASP and IIS 4 that the event was guaranteed, like a 50/50 chance. If I have some shopping cart clean up functions in the Session_End event, will that fire every single time a user's session expires whether from closing the browser window, browsing to another site or programatically abandoning a session? Or is there a better way? Thanks,

1,000 users log in for entering data. Which is the best way to clean up after each user? How do I end a session properly when an explicit logout is not an option? If the user just closes the browser will my IIS clean up automatically, or ought I to do something explicit? If no Session Timeout is set, is the session then infinite?

Hi I'm using the Session_End event in the global.asax to detect if a users sessions has ended. Is there any way to tell if the session end is due to it being expired and not abandoned? I'm trying to show the user a popup if their session has expired due to a timeout. Whats the best way to do this?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
