I have observed that a temporary loss of a domain controller can cause
problems creating new ado connections between a client machine running
ado and a separate sql server machine that are members of the domain.
I understand why this happens when creating connections with windows
authentication. What is a mystery is that it also sometimes effects
new connections that use "sql authentication". Below is a description
of my test scenario.

I'm developing a web application for our local intranet that will allow users
to pull up a webpage and update or deleted or insert records into a database
as well as run reports etc...
Our DB server is on a Win2k3 OS using SQL Server 2000
Our Web server is on a separate Win2kr OS using IIS 6
Both the servers and the clients are part of the same domain.
We've turned anonymous access off on the web and are passing the integrated...

Hey All,
Trying to understand why I can not get SQL server to trust my IIS server. I
have two machines set up, 1 App and 1 DB, and I'm trying to validate the
applications access to the DB server via NT Authentication. The App comes in
via NTLM which from my understanding only supports Single hop security
delegation. So far I understand why it doesn't work, although seems to me
like a very bad problem. Now, Basic Authentication will...

On my asp.net application, suddenly the forms authentication cookies
for clients have quit expiring. This results in users being able to
access the site from day to day without having to log in, even if
their
browers are closed and reopened...

Hello, I originally configured my application to use persistent
cookies in error. Now, I need to find a way to disable those cookies.
I have tried changing usernames and passwords for all of the users,
but that doesn't help - they can still access our site using their old
persistent cookies. How can I disable them and force the users to log
in again?

What I'm trying to do is Create an ASP.Net app that has both
Windows-authenticated users and Anonymous users. The idea is this:
When authenticated users attempt to access the site, their credentials are
passed to the Request, and I use the DOMAIN\USER value via the AUTH_USER
server variable to access their accounts. These people would never have to
log in to the app, only their machines on the network.
When anonymous users attempt to...

Hello All,
i was wondering what is the main difference between the windows
authentication and mixed mode authentication??
according to security recommendations, we should enable windows
authentication, rather than mixed one, i don get the point why do we
refuse the mixed mode authentication, although it includes windows
authentication together with an extra layer of defense by the aid of an
extra authentication mechanism, sql...

I have my windows authentication on our intranet set up as:
<authentication mode="Windows"/>
This works for 15 machines at work fine. Doesn't ask you to logon. It uses
the logon credentials the user used to logon originally
There are 4 machines that it asks for logon credentials (even though they
have already logged on). Obviously, the credentials are valid or they
wouldn't be able to log on to their local machines.

I have an intranet site on my LAN which has "anonymous access" turned
OFF, and "integrated Windows authentication" turned on. This allows
me to access the "AUTH_USER" server variable, which I use to look up
application rights in SQL Server. With IE6 clients, this has worked
flawlessly for several years.
Our users are currently running IE6, but my parent agency has
announced an upgrade to IE7 beginning next month, so I have installed...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
