Invalid Cast Exception on Context.Applica tionInstance

I have a v1.1 webapp that works fine on two different servers (my development machine and a
Verio-hosted site). However, it blows up on a MaximumASP-hosted site at a particular line:

private void Page_Load(objec t sender, System.EventArg s e)
{
// snippet
theGlobal = (Global) Context.Applica tionInstance;
}

I put a bunch of site-wide methods and properties in the Global.asax file and reference them through
this cast.

Does anyone have any idea why this would work in some environments and not others?

Thanx in advance for any help or advice.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for posting to the MSDN newsgroups.

Please use "((global_asax) Context.Applica tionInstance)" and test this issue
again.

I hope it helps.

Jacob,

Actually, the answer was even simpler: I'd forgotten to upload the global.asax file after I'd
customized it's code-behind. The cast was failing because, without global.asax,
Context.Applica tionInstance is an HttpApplication , but with global.asax present it's a Global.

I'm running into an Invalid Cast Exception on an ASP.NET application that runs fine in my development environment (Win2K server running IIS 5) and a test environment (also Win2K server running IIS 5), but fails on IIS 6 running on a Win2003 server. The web uses Pages derived from a custom class I wrote (which itself derives from Page) to provide some common functionality. The Page_Load handler the failing webpage starts out like this: ...

I am attempting to pass data between two asp.net web forms pages. I have found the method to do this on the msdn site here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/cpguide/html/cpconPassingServerControlValuesBetweenPages.asp After attempting to do this myself, I kept getting an Invalid Cast Exception error, so I finally resorted to simply copying and pasting the MS code in this article into two pages for the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
