Adding descended ASP.NET component to toolbox?

Hi.

I followed the steps suggested below . . .

Say I created my component in the namespace "cld.aspnet.com ponents" - where
(filepath) would I look for the dll to add in to the toolbox, and what would
be called?

Visual Studio.NET has too many places where this file could be - somewhere
in my INETPUB, somewhere in the visual studio cache, etc etc. If I know what
it would be called I could search for it . . .

Thanks!

Following the example at
http://www.codeproject.com/useritems...asp?print=true, I have a
datagrid descendant class that shows a JavaScript confirm dialog before
deleting a row from the grid.

My first two questions are:

(i) Currently this class is in my project namespace.

I suppose it's a good idea to have this in some more generic custom
namespace so I can use this in several ASP.NET projects.

What is the best way to take this component and do that?
You can create a new class library and then create a new component and
inherit the datagrid class. Then make your modifications as you have in

the current code.
(ii) Currently using the component involves dropping a normal datagrid on the webform and then editing the HTML view of the designer

<%@ Register tagprefix="dg" Namespace="iCAR netWebInterface "
Assembly="iCARn etWebInterface" %>

and

<asp:Datagrid . . .> </asp:datagrid> to <dg:DelDataGrid > . . .
</DelDataGrid> eg:

<dg:DelDataGr id id="DataGrid1" runat="server" CellPadding="3"
BackColor="Whit e" BorderWidth="1p x"
BorderStyle="No ne" BorderColor="#C CCCCC" AllowPaging="Tr ue"
PageSize="8" AutoGenerateCol umns="False"
Height="168px" Width="448px">
. . .
</dg:DelDataGrid> </TD>

How would I go about making this modified/descended/inherited component
available from the toolbar, so it registers itself and inserts itself into the webform appropriately?
If you create the new component and inherit the original datagrid

class as I mentioned above you will be able to add the new component to the
toolbar by right clicking on the toolbar, clicking the browse button in the window that pops up, and navigating to the compiled .dll file of the new
component.

> if you have a web project and you didn't mess with the path your component
will be found in the bin directory of the application under inetpub/wwwroot on your local drive. it will be the name of the application with a dll
extension if you didn't mess with the defaults

Thanks.

I found a dll with my web application name.

What I have is two namespaces - MyProject and MyCustomClasses .

What I would like to add to the toolbox is _just_ the classes/components in
MyCustomClasses .

Do I need to add my whole project dll into the toolbox to accomplish this?

I would hope not, that i could separate off the namespace containing the
descended components and just add that to the toolbox . . .

Thanks again

Hi, I've created a custom component and I am trying to add this component to my toolbox through an installer. I've read previous posts and msdn documentation on using the DTE object and the various ToolBox collections within. I've been able to create a new ToolBoxTab but I am not able to add any items to this tab.

I frequently define internal UserControl-derived classes in my WinForms apps: internal class MyUserControl:UserControl{ ... } I'll often need to embed these controls in a Form, whose class is contained in the same assembly as the control. As far as I know, the only way to do this using the designer is to add the UserControl-derived object

I am reading this article... http://www.codeproject.com/cs/combobox/csautocomplete.asp About half-way down you will see a section titled "Using This Control" (written in orange lettering). Underneath that it says "Use this control in the same manner as you would a regular System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox. Add it to your form, via the designer or programmatically as detailed below".

I've authored a custom web component (a non-ui component kinda like a DataSet) and so far it's working. When my web component is added to the web form in the designer from the toolbox, the namespace for my component is automatically added to the using directive of the codebehind. And, the appropriate assembly is added to the "References" for the Web form's project. However, my custom component has a field (initialized to null, and...

Hi, I have added a component class that inherits System.windows.Forms.TextBox. This component is in the same project as my windows application (executable). I could instantiate it and add to form's controls collection but I want to know that if it is possible to add it to the toolbox like if this component was in separate project in this solution. Thanks in advance. Amin

following of thread: "Adding namespaces to code behind automatically" Hello, I had quite the same problem and got further in the right direction with your suggestions, thanks. Nevertheless, I have a newer problem which seems to come from the fact that the assembly which contains my "SimpleComponentToolboxItem" must be already referenced

Hi all, I wrote a component with ComponentDesigner to let users drag and drop it to WebPage from toolbox directly. Just like the behavior of dataAdapter. But it works fine on ASP.NET 1.1 but not on ASP.NET 2.0. Sometimes I add it to toolbox in VS2005 WebSite Project but it will not appear. And always it can't be drag and drop to WebPage any more. Nothing will be added to page after that.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
