UNC Security permission checking

Hello there all. Got a slight problem that is really starting to grate
me. Have created a search page that interacts with the index service
on one of our servers and it works wel... too well in fact. The
generalisations are shown no matter what the user priveleges are which
is a huge security risk in this company. I thought I could check that
the file exists and if the user didn't have access to the file it
would not come through as existing if asp.net is set to impersonate
(which it is). This doesnt work although it seems to work when
accessing a local file which is really confusing me. Is there another
way of doing the same job? I would have thought there would have been
something within security area but I cannot see anything to check for
priveleges, only to set them.

Any ideas?

I am posting this to the newsgroup because I wasted some time on Friday troubleshooting a problem of my own making. Other people might benefit from hearing about it. I'm working on the final touches to an app that's going to be run by 3 people in an office from their workstations, and about 10 other people remotely via Windows Terminal Server. The TS is set up and operating beautifully (I'm not the client's sysadmin, but I *trained* the...

I have a .Net 1.1 application which is downloaded into an aspx page. It is a dll which inherits from System.Windows.Forms.UserControl. It works fine on a PC with only the 1.1 Framework. However, the control will not load on a PC with the 2.0 Framework installed. I know that IE will use the newest framework so I assume it is a security issue. At the assembly level I apply the following attributes;

Hi all, I've got this problem. I've to implemente a solution like the example in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;313891, but I can't configure correctly the example. Every time I click on the textBox a System.Security.SecurityException is raised.

Hello, I have created a web service name "TestWS" and published it to my SBS2003 server that uses IIS6 as a web server. I have set NO anonymous access to TestWS virtual directory and I have created a simple user account from the User template with the name of "MyUser". Problem is that I can't login to \TestWS\Service1.asmx with MyUser account unless I give that user Administrator permission.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
