versioning of assemblies

Hi,

I was reading a doc on versioning, and came to know that versioning of
assemblies are easier than ever. Can sb pl mention me, how this can be
achieved using config files and how runtime locates these assemblies
OR any pointers to these docs ?

TIA

Dear all I have the following problem. I have a big application which uses different assemblies in the form of references. Now if I make changes to one of the components(assemblies) and then copy the latest assembly to the folder in which my application exe exists and then rerun the application, i get an error. What might be the possible causes of this error ?

I'm working on a client-server application where the client is controlling two devices (aka servers) which both implement the same interface contract. We have a set of about 4 assemblies which specify the interfaces and the data types which flow through the interfaces. Initially, we thought this would be enough for the client to talk with the server. In general it is, but when an exception is generated by the server it fails to...

Hi All, I'm trying to get around a problem that I'm having with versioning. I have a DLL called Control.dll and it is at version 1.0. I choose to inherit from one of the controls, and build my own control - MyControl.dll and it is at version 1.0 also. MyControl.dll is then used in MyApplication project. Control.dll is also used in My Application project.

I have an application that is comprised of multiple dll's and exe's, all with strong names. Let's say that all of these applications use a utility library Utility.dll, and let's say the version of Utility.dll is 1.0.0.0. I then make a small change to the Utility library, which I want to push out to uses in the form of a patch. Since it's a minor change, I increment the version of the Utility assembly to 1.0.0.1. What I'd like to do...

I manage our nightly builds for all of our products. Since we have added our .NET assemblies to our nightly build, it has been a learning process. I have come across a couple of situations that I am not sure how to handle without rebuilding or redeploying some of our common assemblies. First let me explain what we do: 1. Version all assemblies with 1.0.0.* 2. All assemblies are strong named 3. We use project references

Hi there, I have a problem with an assembly deployed in GAC. First of all, a little scenario description: We develop (small) WEB apps that use an assembly for connecting with our databases. This assembly has evolved from 1.1 to 1.3 version. The problem: I've installed the two assemblies in GAC, apparently without problems,

I'm having a problem with serializing between different versions of classes. I've read the many posts on handling versioning by implementing ISerializable but unforunately we shipped the first few versions of our app thinking we had done that, but unforunately we hadn't. Thus all the original serialized object were done using pretty much standard .NET binary serialization. We're using the binary formatter and now have a number of typed...

Is there any competing model at all? I've read a few articles about Assemblies and it seems great conceptually. Is it widely used in the real-world software development? Are there any known problems before I jump into it? Thx! C.

I've built a core set of assemblies that are shared by multiple ASP.NET web applications on a production server. These assemblies are updated quite frequently, as I am continually adding to and improving the core functionality of my applications. Up until now, I've used a batch script to copy updated assembly versions to the \bin directory for each application. However, given that all applications always use the latest version of the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
