I have a problem with the following code, which leaves an instance of
Excel visible in Task Manager.
By a process of elimination I have got it down to the fact that
something in the DoCmd.Transfer Spreadsheet line is holding on to an
Excel reference somewhere - can anybody assist (if I comment this line
out, the instance is released, and not visible in Task Manager).
Private Sub btnLoadData_Click()
Dim xlApp2 As Object

I use code extensively; I probably overuse it. But I've been using
error trapping very sparingly, and now I've been trapped by that.
A form that works for me on the system I'm using, apparently runs into
problems on the system where it will actually be used, and since I
used so little error-trapping it dies very ungracefully.
I will of course try to fix whatever is causing the error and add
error-trapping to the functions where the...

I'm testing error handling configurations and having some trouble. I created
a WebForm called. ErrDefault.aspx and I am trying to use the Page error
attribute to force the redirection to a custom page, but I only get and
unhandled exception page and it does not direct me to my specific page. I'm
probably doing something really stupid, but I cant see what .
Any Ideas ? - Thanx Mr N

Our web service was working fine until we installed .net Framework 1.1 service pack 1. Uninstalling SP1 is not an option because our largest customer says service packs marked as "critical" by Microsoft must be installed on their servers.
Now german Umlaute (ä, ü, ö) and quotes are returned incorrectly in SOAP fault responses.
This can be easily verified:
Implement the following in a web service method (just raises a SOAPException with a...

I have a report that runs fine with data. If there is no data, I have
its NO Data event sending a MsgBox and cancelling the report.
Then it seems I still get the 2501 message on the Open Report command,
even though I have the code to trap Err 2501 (from many postings - all
looked the same to me) on the button the user pressed to get the
report.
I never see the code going to my error handling on the button. If I
debug, I am in an...

Thought I would give something back with a few articles. This article is a bit of code to add error handling. When I have time, I want to write articles on multilingual databases, and Access Security, but I'll start with something short and simple
This code was written in Access 2003 but should be valid in Access 2000
By default, when you start a new module, either in a form or report, or a global module, Access does not declare Option...

I am using System.Net.Sockets to connect a client socket to a server that
requires three inputs when I connect: host, port and an identification
number that identifies the person connecting.
None of the overloads for either the Connect or BeginConnect methods takes
that many inputs (basically they take host and port only).
Would it be best to create a new class that derives from the base class
System.Net.Sockets and implement a new...

Hello guys!
We have an SQL server which sometimes makes timeouts and connection errors. And we have an function witch writes and updates data in 2 tables on this server. When the SQL server error appears it, in 99%, of the cases, works if we just press the play button in VBA debug. Therefor we have maked an error handling which just tryes again.
However, as this error handling is difficult to test because of maybe 1 or 2 errors a day, we...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
