I would appreciate any ideas how to write to the parallel port (Mem
0x378) when runnning WinXP or Mandrake 9.2.
In C and LabVIEW I use the OutP command to write to directly to a
memory address.
Thank you

Howdy,
I'm trying to write data out the com port. I have taken the code from the
sample on the MSDN Library CD and used the parts that seem relevant. I can
open the com port with CreateFile and get a valid file handle back. But
when I try to write to it, the WriteFile comes back and tells me the handle
is invalid. The program has control of the port because using Hyperterminal,
I can't connect when the program is connected.
There...

Hello. I have a .net application that utilizes COM ports to
communicate with serial devices (namely a GPS).
This may not be the right group for this question, but bear with me as
I am not sure where else to ask. (I would appreciate any NG
pointers).
Anyway, my application uses CreateFile and ReadFile to setup a COM
port for the GPS, and then to read the data from the GPS.

In our setup project, we have the standard web
application folder, but we also have 4 web custom folders
(virtual directories) that are created at the same level
as the web application folder (i.e. not subdirectories).
The setup works fine as long as the user leaves the
default setting of port 80. If they choose something
different, the install program loads the web application
folder correctly at the non-standard port, but it
installs...

I've created an ASP.NET installer using Visual Studio's "Web Setup Project"
template. I'm installing to Windows 2000 Server (IIS 5). If I configure the
default web site to a port other than 80, then enter that port during
installation, I get the following error when I click Next:
"The folder path '?' contains an invalid character."
Furthermore, if you continue the installation, none of the folders under
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\myapp get...

I am working on a very simple hardware project and would like to
develop serial port controls, but I'm having a little bit of trouble
starting out. The project is the following:
I have built an LED lamp with 8 seperate light-up sections controlled
by a PLD. Each time the PLD clocks, it assigns the value of an input
(either high or low) to one of the output pins (0 through 7), and
subsequently controls the lamp.
I would like my program...

I want to deploy a service with a windows app and the setup program
must conform to the Vista certification requirements. Can that be
done with the standard .net setup project? Assuming cost is an
issue,
what else is available?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
