I am about to completely lose what is left of my poor mynd! The historical dissertation gets rather verbose, so I hope you can wade through it all. I really need some help on this one or I'm looking at rewriting all my hard work in something else (wasting probably a month or more). (If you want to run and hide now, the error message is "The decimal field's precision is too small to accept the numeric you attempted to add." I haven't yet...

hello... i am a 'user' of access, meaning, i import excel files, join, and merge....that's about the extent of my expertise with ms-access. my boss wants me to create an access application that will replace our 'excel' version of time reporting. we use ms-access 2000. i have a huge book (mastering access 2000) though the cd is missing. i looked at using the wizard for time reporting, but is was designed for external clients, and the...

A while back I posted a message re. using an ADP file with a SQL Server back end as opposed to MDB file with linked tables, thinking that the ADP file would be less problematic. The input I got was that the ADP would be just as, if not more, problematic; that ADO is far more limited than DAO, requiring a lot of workarounds; and that it would be better to stay with a seasoned MDB file than to switch to an ADP. The database in question was...

I have been using a SQL database with a VB5 frontend for about 5 years. Works well. Unfortunately I don't have access to the source code. I was tasked with implementing a "job entry" application that will allow a restricted list of users to enter jobs in the database. We do not want these users to be able to access all the data. I created an application in Access 2002 that performs this function seemingly quite well. However we now...

A97 Topic: If there is a way to preserve the values assigned to global variables when an untrapped runtime error occurs? I don't think there is, but I thought I'd ask. During development, I'm constantly running tests on imperfect code. On of the cumbersome jobs encountered is reassigning global vars their values after a close encounter with an untrapped runtime error. Rather than writing a procedure to simply reassign them all with a...

I'm currently using ASP.NET with VS2003 and SQL Server 2003. The ASP.NET app i have made is running on IIS v6 and consists of a number of pages that allow the user to read information from the database into classes, which are used throughout the application. I have made class collections which, upon reading from the DB, create an instance of the class and store the DB values in there temporarily. My problem is that if user1 looks at...

I'm working on a .net web application. The architect of this web application is quite different than other web applications i worked before. Since we use a set of tools to generate most of the basic code. Every table in the database related to an object in the application. There is no stored procedures in database; In every object of the application, the tool generates methods for basic database operations like insert, delete, update,...

One of my clients has asked me to make a change to one of their Access applications. The application is a Front End/Back End standard app. I didn't develop it, but looking at it tells me that it was done entirely using the Wizards. There is no log-in procedure. They want to amend it so that only one person can be logged in at any one time. So, if Joe Bloggs tries to open the application, and Fred Jones has already connected, Joe...

Hey folks, Let me start out by letting you know what I'm working with. I'm building an application in VB 2005 that is basically a userform that employees can use to "Clock in". The form allows the employee to enter their UserID and select "Login" or "Logout" and then click a submit. When the submit button is clicked, I want the application to dum the NT Userename, UserID, status (Login or Logout) and a date/time stamp into an MS Access...

I am in the process of exploring the possibility of providing our products on databases other than Oracle.I am able to migrate the data, procedures etc without too much effort (latest version of DB2 seems to have improved a lot compared to the earlier ones).* Unfortunately, I have limited knowledge of DB2, especially in setting the server parameters, their impact on an environment with high concurrency etc. As a result, we are getting very high...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
