Hi, I'm an Austrian writer living in Montpezat (South France). I just installed a local W3C validator on my machine (Slackware 10.1, local Apache server). It's accessible as http://w3c-validator, because I'm on dialup and I want to check pages offline. Unfortunately, URL upload won't work, because the validator doesn't accept any URL's beginning with http://localhost.

Good day all, and thank you in advance for your help. No - MANY thanks in advance for your help - I know nothing about using databases on Web servers. I am about to discuss a project with a client who is in the apartment rental business. He solicits "For Rent" listings from property owners and managers, advertises the apartments, shows them, takes applications and like that. His inventory, as it were, is a list of vacant apartments that...

Hi, I have created an ASP.NET application (let's call it FooBar) with VS.NET on my local machine, residing in http://localhost/FooBar. Deploying it to another folder on my machine works well with FrontPage Server Extensions, but I don't manage to deploy the application to my web provider http root folder. When I run Copy Project, I get an error message just saying 'Unable to create Web project 'myname'. Not found.'.

I have an aspx page with a data grid, some textboxes, and an update button. This page also has one html input element with type=file (not inside the data grid and runat=server). The update button will verify the information that has been entered and updates the data base if the data is correct. Update will throw an exception if the data is not validate based on some given rules. I also have a custom error handling page to show the...

My Web Host (Linux - Apache) recently upgraded to Php5. One thing lost in the upgrade was a global configuration that allowed me to place php.ini files in any directory and they would be read and used (I don't know if that was in addition to a global php.ini file or not). Prior to that (a couple of years ago) php directives were placed in the htaccess file in the site's root directory, but after an even earlier upgrade the htaccess...

I'm trying to send data to a remote script (a credit card processing third party) from my site using POST. Currently, I'm doing it using the ususal form dynamically built with my values. This is less than ideal because I want to perform local processing (updating order status in the local database) and then to proceed to the remote script, with resultant values, without relying on the user pressing a button.

I've got a system where I try to install extensions using /usr/local/bin/python setup.py install But, it fails when it tries to use a non-existant compiler path and specs file. I suspect it's trying to use the compieler that was used to build /usr/bin/python. How do I get it to use the compiler settings that were used for /usr/local/bin/python?

I have been able using the namespace System.Web.Mail and its method Smtp.mail.send to mail simple text messages to a small group within our 55 and older community. I need help expanding the programs capabilities. Searching this forum I did not find any related information so if I have chosen poorly, I would appreciate a suggestion of a more appropriate dotnet forum. Now what I wish is the ability to send bcc's rather than to: (would be...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
