NEWBIE matching two fields

1 New Member
I have Table and and Tableb each table has a field called site it i need to match the site id's btwn the tables.
Table 1 siteid - LAX-0001
Table 2 siteid - LAX-0001A

I need to be able to find all the data that matches the first 8 characters. Again I am new to this and apologize for the simple question. The reason for this is table 1 contains information that have other fields that need to be corrected.
