error when opening my database

I get the following error when I open my database file "There isn't enough memory to preform this operation. Close unneeded programs and try the operation again"

The DB is a relatively small file 31MB. Once I hit OK on the button the DB opens but some operations do not work.

This is not a computer problem as I tried it on several computers, also a backup file of about a week earlier works fine.

any suggestions?

Some questions:

  1. What version of Access?
  2. If ACC2003, have you recently installed the latest update, SP3?
  3. When the database opens, does a form automatically load?
  4. If # 3 is true, does the form have a combobox on it?
  5. What version of Windows are you running?

answers
1 - 2003
2- no (at least I don't think so - how can I find out?
3 - yes!
4- No! - it is basicaly a switchboard but was created like a form
5. XP

To add, the tables that are holding the data, are all working fine, it is just two of the forms and one subform that are not opening up and giving me that error.

Should I be installing the SP3 update? and if so where do I get it from?

Absolutely not! You need to wait until Micro$oft gets the myriad of bugs worked out of it! That's why I asked the question! SP3 has caused a seemingly unending number of problems, I though that might be the problem here. If you have an IT department that maintains your PCs you should ask them if they've updated.

Were there any major changes made between the working and the non-working versions of your database?

Barring a SP3 update, the first thing I'd do is go into Startup and disable the automatic loading of your "switchboard" form. That is, BTW, a far better approach than using an Access generated switchboard. Next, go to the Objects dialog box and run each form from there and see if you have problems.
