search not finding records

2 New Member
We recently converted from windows 2000 server to window 2003 server. The access database worked fine on the 2000 server. But now on the 2003 server searches are slower and sometimes search does not find the record then users will redo the search or move off the current record and redo the search and it finds the record.

We are using Access 2000 backend that resides on the 2003 server with Access 2002 front ends that reside on the users xp machine. The database is 1.2 gb and hasn't been compacted in several years. Would you advise compacting after all this time. We currently have 4 users accessing the database at once. Any suggestions as to what might be going on is appreciated.

There are people here with much more experience using Windows Server than I have, but the fact that your app worked fine until you changed servers tells me that the problem is a networking/server related, not Access related. I think you need to have your IT people look at the problem. Having said that, it probably wouldn't hurt to do a compact of your backend, after, of course, doing a backup of it!

Good Luck and Welcome to TheScripts!

Thanks for your help. The IT Consultant ran a full backup remotely the morning that we were having problems. The problem has gone away.
