Reports and Queries return auto ID number instead record itself

Access 2002
when I run a report or a query they result in the auto ID number (in some cases) rather than the value iteslf.

We need to see the code you're using as well as the results to be able to see what may be wrong.

I assume this means the value is based on a lookup.

In the design view of the report, make the existing control invisible and add a new textbox control. Set the souce control to =DLookup("[FieldValue]","Table/Query Name", "[ID Field]=" & [Invisible ID Field])

Alternatively, if the table lookup is set to show a combobox just delete the existing control and drag it off the field list again to replace it. It should now appear as a combobox.
