Import files into table

I have a database that I'm working on and I want to add attachments to
certain records.
Each attachment could be an email message or a text file or even a zip
file.
Is it possible to import such files into a table and how do I go about
doing it?

Bad plan. Store the path to the file instead and format it as a
hyperlink.
