speed

Hi
Right now I have a client with the following:
They have a program (lets call it program A) containing around 20 tables and
queries and forms...
This program is on a server. The company have 8 computers and each computer
have an access to the server via a shortcup that point to the mdb file.
Everything is running fine

I have make some change to a copy of this file. This program has no tables,
but is linked to the tables of the program A
But now it is slowlier, is it normal because of the link ?

Second what is the best choice:

1- Everybody is using the same new program with a shortcut like before in
that case I have the option to transfer the tables into the new program or
2- put the new program on each computer and create a link to the tables
(program A) on the server for each computer ?
thanks

You for the last ten years installed Excel on each computer. For the last
ten years you installed word on each computer.

The fact of the matter is you are DEVELOPING software. That software needs
to be installed on EACH pc just like everything else.

Sure, you can share a word document on the server. Sure, you can share a
Excel document on the server. But, you ALWAYS installed the software part on
EACH computer. So, since you now developed some software, that software
needs to be installed on each computer.

There is a big difference between a mdb file with just data, and one that
has code, forms, and a application user interface.

So, yes, the correct and reliable method here is to install the front end on
EACH computer. if you keep open a persistent connection, then you should not
see a performance drop that can be noticed. (persistent connection means
that the FE opens up a back end table...any table and KEEPS IT OPEN during
the operation of the application).
