Temp File Problem

Hi;

I am have a db back end situation, and have a problem with temp files. I am attempting to
use temp files to manage the modification of a master file, and its not working right.

I set up the temp files by one of two techniques:

A. I open the Back End and copy one file and paste it with a name with the end temp..and
is "Units Temp".

B. I do the same thing with the program (non be) open using the program access,

In both cases when I clear the temp file using query, it clears both the main file and the
temp. Its obvious that there is some linkage, and I notice that when I add a record to the
temp record, it comes up with a number that is one number more than the last number on the
original. Its obvious there is a link, but I don't know how to break it

Can someone help me?

Best

John Baker.
