Synch then find conflicts

In Access 2000 I have a split database with a replicated back end. For
synching, I open the replic and synch one way to the design master.
This all works fine.

I opened the design master one day and the replica a different day and
found there to be conflicts with the conflict resolution form asking
what to do.

Am I supposed to open just the replica or just the design master to
resolve these conflicts? Is one better than the other or one make more
sense than the other?

Is there a way for this to prompt so the user can do it when they are
synching?
