Running Access 97 on Windows ME

I am trying to run MS Access 97 on Windows ME and it continuously crashes
(will not read Access data and then Windows locks up). The program runs
fine on Windows 95 and Windows XP. Somewhere I read that Windows ME had
problems with Access 97. Has anyone had any experience with this setup?
Please give me some help with this situation.

Do you receive any error messages when this happens? Have you applied all
the latest service packs to both ME AND your Office programs? Also, make
sure your MDAC and Jet are updated ... there's links to the ms site on my
page at www.thedatabaseplace.net/dataupdates.asp

I don't know if ME has troubles with Access 97 or not, but it has troubles
in every other area, in my experience. I had one computer that ran Windows
ME ... gave me more headaches than all others combined, and this was just my
kid's machine ... although I know that I had Office 97 on it, I don't know
that I ever actually ran the Access program.

Windows ME is not a great version of Windows, but I have successfully run
Access 97, Access 2000 and Access 2002 on Windows ME. As others have
suggested, check that all relevant updates are installed. In addition to
Windows and Office updates, it's also worth checking for updates to the
video and printer drivers - I remember a Windows ME PC on which Access would
consistently crash when previewing reports, even though Word and Excel
print-preview worked without any problems. A new printer driver fixed that
problem.
