Excel: VBA Copy Files from One List as Another List

2 New Member
I have 2 folders. Folder 1 contains thousands of jpeg images of our parts. The images are saved under the part number for that part.
I want to search this folder for a specific image. if it exists, i want to copy the image and save it in another folder (folder #2) under a different name.

Hence in my worksheet I have 2 columns. In column 1 i have the name of the part number i want to use to search folder 1. if the jpeg image is found, i want to copy the image and save it in folder # 2 under the name found in column 2. If i find multiple images of this part, i want to copy them multiple times with a -pic1, -pic2, etc.

Please help - i am very new to VBA and the answer to my problem would greatly appreciated.

I think we need to get some things sorted from the start Scott :
  1. We don't do the work for you. The best we can do is offer pointers at this stage.
  2. More help may be forthcoming if/when you show the work you've done on this yourself.
  3. Your explanation is fairly reasonable, but does leave the question as to how there can be multiple items in a single folder with the same name. Probably a misunderstandin g of course, but as you've explained it that doesn't make good sense.
  4. Where do Folder 1 & Folder 2 come from? That info is missing from the question.

Basically, you need to process through the rows in your spreadsheet, but it's always better to work to a clear spec. Starting prematurely on a sort of spec is never a good approach.

To resolve this, I need to copy the file to this location without possibility of user error in selecting the correct folder (the DB is to be...

I have 2 web servers where I need to write a PDF file and need to keep them in sync. In others words, If the Server1 is getting called to create the PDF, then it needs to copy the PDF to the other Server2 and visa-versa. The 2 server are running 2003. It's a form-based authentication (.NET 1.1) site and I'm using IIS 6 native mode. Both boxes are set to the same workgroup. Since everything is so locked down now, I'm not sure what's the...

Good day, I need to safely copy files from one directory to another. I need to make sure that I do not lock the file making it unreadable by others. I am not sure if this is the default behavior if I just used File.Copy... The files are relatively small.

Hi, I am trying to do this perl script, but not able to complete it successfully. Here is the description what the script has to do.. Accept two and only two command line arguments. Again, these will be the names of two directories. This time, make sure that the "sending" directory exists (and is, indeed, a directory). Make sure that the "receiving" directory exists, and if not, create it. Then, copy files from the sending directory to...

How do I programmatically copy files across a network (from a local workstation to another local workstation on the network) using visual basic 2005? In other words, when in explorer and you enter a unc path to a network workstation, you are prompted with a dialog box asking for the user name and password that has access rights to that computer. After validating, you can access the files on the remote pc just like you can on your own pc,...

I have a database table that contains some file names and there come times when I have to copy these files to another location to have them be re-processed by a windows service. Is there a query I can run to copy the files? I'm finding myself running a query to find all the files I need to copy, and then manually copying the files. I was hoping my query could do this for me.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
