network error has corrupted database

35 New Member
Hi

I'm implementing a really simple access DB on a server. Every once in a while, an error will occur that appears to cause an unrecoverable flaw in the program code. This error crashes the DB. It deactivates control buttons and does not allow me to add new controls to existing forms. I'm getting the message:

"error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost"

i've tried compacting the DB and still no luck. This has been a disaster. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to fix?

thanks

Last time I was working on a database and a network admin reset the server, my database was corrupted beyond recovering, and I had to revert to the previous day's backup.

But you can try the steps in this Bytes post to decompile, if your database is corrupted.

Do you think it is possible that the network connection was actually lost?

Network connections dissappear all the time. For various reasons. Depending on timeout values etc.

It's a good idea to plan for this by using a Front End / Back End (Front-End / Back-End (FE/BE)) setup where the FE databases are stored on the local PC.

BE connections are not so critical. It is the connection to the designs etc which cause the problems when encountered.

I'm no stranger to this error message, but I have a client who is experiencing it, but, fortunately, without any actual data corruption, and it's driving them made. Their inability to grasp that the cause is fundamentally a networking problem is also making me pull my hair out. Some history: The network is composed of five computers dating back to 1995, each purchased one at a time, and each having a different OS, etc. Until

I am a complete idiot when it comes to access. Now that said, I work for a computer security company and one of our customers came to us with an access problem. They had been running fine for a long time. Then about a month ago there main server that hosted all the .mdb files crashed. So they restored everything to a new server (I believe 2003 server). Everything was fine for 2 weeks, then one morning they came in and the queries were...

A2k3 Win XP Pro. I have a BE on a Win 2003 server which started giving the above error this morning. Now I can't connect to it at all. This behaviour is limited to one folder on the server, I can connect to all my other BEs OK. I'm assuming that the whole folder has become corrupted - it won't even let me copy files to another folder, the question is the likely cause. Has anyone ever encountered a similar problem and found the cause?...

HELP! My database is suddenly corrupted. My computer was acting funny (very sluggish) and was shut down. Access had been already been closed down but computer was acting very slow , so perhaps it was still open. I am now getting a "The data base ... is corrupted and needs to be repaired" error . I have made copies of the corrupted database so that I could try to repair and still have a corrupted copy available. When I try to repair , it...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
