Selecting Record on subform based on which button was pushed

I have a database I'm using to build information about a laboratory building design. After I create a record for a space and input general info, I move to a subform where I'd like to record any equipment that will go into that space. This subform (which is a sourceobject for a "display" subform for many others) has for its controlsource a table which is merely a listing of the equipment.

For each actual listing, I'd like to have a button on the list form that opens up an equipment detail form that allows me to input particulars for that specific equipment, like electricity demand, size, etc. This form has as its controlsource a table of equipment details

Being still a simpleton newbie (no formal training in databases whatsoever) I'm not sure how to set up the relationships between tables and set up any filters that would allow me by clicking on a button on the equipment list form for a particular room to get to one and only record for that piece of equipment, say the room name is "Lab" and if it has three pieces of equipment then there Equip_Button_1 should open up only the record for equipment piece number one, and so forth.

Any and all help will be appreciated. It seems like my detail list should be based on a query, no?

Not sure exactly what you mean here, but I gather you want buttons to match entries in a subset of your data. The normal way to do this would be to select an item using a ComboBox control.

If you want to open a form filtered to just the item selected in that ComboBox then check out Example Filtering on a Form.

I would like to know if the following is possible: I have a form and a subform. In the subform, there are records summarized. (For ex, instead of showing all 19 fields, I only show 3 to save space.) I would like the user to be able to select a record in the subform datasheet, and click a button, or double click, to bring up the ENTIRE record. (I would have a separate form created for this).

Hello Everyone, Access 2000, I have a main unbound form with a bound datasheet subform . The subform is bound to a query that returns records based on criteria in the main form. The user then double clicks a row on the datasheet subform to open yet another form bound to a table . These two forms are linked by the field. So far so good.

Hello A have an application in MS Access 2000. It has a form (courses), which has a subform (course occurrences), which has a subform (occurrence learning aims). The Learning aims subform is based on a table with a composite primary key of course code ID, occurrence ID, learning aim code and year code. The table also has got a column Deleted (Yes/No): learning aims deleted by users are not deleted from the table, but marked Deleted=Yes....

I hope someone will tell me how to do this without having to do any VB as I know nothing in that area. I am a rank beginner in using Access. I have created a database consisting of student athletes.  I have now learned how to join two different tables in a query so that I might generate a report. Specifically, student athletes at a community college are required to graduate with an AA or AS degree.  Consequently, various steps are in...

I am currently working on a database, in 3rd normal form, which is for candidates who apply for a job with the law firm that I workd for. My issue is with good form design. I have a main form. Then I have 3 pages on a tab control ( 4 if the type of candidate validates that is is to be shown) Each page has a subform. The subforms can be either single or continuous, I think I am still deciding what I want to lock down this entry...

I am new at Access, databases, AND posting threads (sorry). I have a subform that is a continuous form based on a tabular query. I enter a particular serial # (on the main form) and the subform shows me one to several forms that are related to that serial #. Each form shows only a few select fields of that particular record. I would like to be able to click a Veiw button (which is a cmd button on this subform) to bring up yet another form...

I have a simple form with 4 fields, and a subform that retrieves records that are potential matches based on a query. The user will use the ID from the subform record and enter it into one of the fields on the main form (this is how the match will be stored). Is there a way using a button/macro to populate the parent form's field with the ID of the subform record that is currently selected? For example, the subform loads 7 records. The...

Hello, I am having a problem getting a new record in a subform to append to the underlying table. When I add a new record to the main form, the subform is blank, except for the ID field, which is populated because of its link to the main form. I would like this new record, populated at this point only with the ID from the main form, to then be appended to the underlying table. (The rest of the attributes for that record will be entered in a...

I have a main form with two subforms (both in datasheet view), neither of which are linked to the main form. The main form is based on a query that uses the bound column of a combobox on the main form as the criteria for the query. The combobox is based on a query that retrieves the name and record id of the customers. In the afterUpdate event of the combobox on the main form and both subforms are requeried. The first subform is based...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
