I want to 'grant sysdba to a user' for an application. (At least that
is what I believe so far after having had this problem dumped on me 2
days ago.) The support we get from the application vendor is lame, to
say the least. Our application users dont know anything.
1. The Oracle 9i server is installed on a Sun Solaris system.
2. I work with Sybase and hence don't know any Oracle.
3. I can start sqlplus but dont know where to go after...

How do I grant all privileges for a schema that has a large number of
existing tables, procedures, functions, etc to a newly created role,
without having to issue a grant statement for each object and each
privilege? I want the role to have all of the rights of the schema
owner.
Is there any kind of blanket granting of all privileges to a role?

This is probably something simple that I am just not seeing, but I
would appreciate your help.
As root, I have created a schema named test, along with several
tables.
I then created a template user named SysAdmin for test using the
following syntax.
GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE

I have a Windows Service that is running as an administrator account. Some
of it methods create files for a COM+ client to digest and puts them in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\... The file is
created with a StreamWriter.
When the COM+ client (running as a non-admin user) is finished with the
file, it tries to clean it up but gets a Permission denied error.
How can the service programmatically grant delete...

I’m building a WinForms Remoting application and it needs to authenticate and
authorize users from two different domains, an active directory domain and an
NT4 domain. In the past, I’ve only had to use the Active Directory domain
and everything works great.
The server will be on the Active Directory domain. How can I do this? In
the past I’ve called the IsInRole method. I’m reading about trusts between
domains but I need some...

Newbie warning: please be gentle with me... I've never had to worry about permissions before, all my dbs have been single-user.
I want to set up a PHP/MySQL based website to display photos listed in a table, which any visitor can interrogate (read-only) without a username or password; <link removed> is the sort of thing I'm aiming at, if you want an example. My webspace provider has all the right stuff, and I can do the coding myself, once...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
