Greetings,
We are connecting to a DB2 database residing on an AIX machine via
JDBC.
In order to lock some row of records, we use the "select . . . for
update . . . " Java statement:
In a multi user environment, we find that once a user locks the rows of
records, another user executing the "select ... for update . . . "
statement will wait, until the first user "commits" the transaction, so

Dealing with the Oracle / DB2 XA (2-phase commit) drivers, I found a
locking situation in DB2 I do not understand. It is actually a pretty
simple scenario to which I can drill it down.
Let say I have a table with one column. This table contains 2 rows:
select * from my_tab
test1
test2
Now I insert a value (with a 1st CLP): insert into my_tab values('x1')

ACCESS 97, Pessimistic Record Locking!???
Does Access 97 allow record level Pessimistic locking?
In other words, when user A is editing a record (has it locked) and
User B tries to edit it (attempts to lock it), user B will get
an error
saying this record cannot be locked now.
It seems like Access 97 is doing optimistic record level locking. In
above scenario user B, is allowed to edit the record but when tries to

I have been ok with optimistic locking most of the time but I have a
situation now where there is more of a chance that users could try to
edit a record at the same time. I'd like to use pessimitic locking, but
it's not working quite as I expected. I've read all over, and by now
have posted elsewhere on this subject, and (strangely it would seem)
have made no progress. This seems to be a bit of a blank spot on the
map. (Access 2000-2003,...

Actually, it is not only the record locking, what I need, and nobody seems
to descibe this.
Imagine the following scenario.
There is a database with, say 10000 records with some unvalidated data. And
there is an Intranet ASP.NET application which is an interface to the
database in question... and there are 100 pretty girls eager to... uhmm...
use the application and validate the data of course ;-).
The task is to enable the data...

Hi.
Given the following:
----------------
String lockSubscriptionQuery =
"SELECT subscriptionId FROM subscription WHERE subscriptionId = ?
FOR UPDATE";
pStmt = conn.prepareStatement(lockSubscriptionQuery);

Using a synchronized Queue, I did some testing on catching the "queue
was empty on dequeue" exception vs. doing my own lock, checking for
empty, and then dequeuing. The try/catch method, though simpler in
code, was 100x slower than doing my own empty-check before dequeue.
That seems incredible to me that the try/catch handlers could be that
much slower than a lock and an empty check. It makes me want to go
through the codebase and rip out...

My users are running Access '03. They have a database with a form
that allows them to enter new records. Frequently they will move to a
new record and not enter any information. This prevents the record
from writing to the table, and worse, it prevents anyone else from
opening the database (db has been placed in a state by user....etc.)
I haven't been able to figure a way to force the autonumber to
generate with an event on the new...

Excuse my noobness. I am managing an access database that is shared
by 4 users. Management does not want to use any technologies outside
of access for this application (no SQL Server, etc). I have split the
database into front end and back end databases and put the front end
on each of the users' computers. All users can open the front end
simultaneously, but once somebody updates data in the form, the back
end locks up.
What I...

ONU (Optical Network Unit) is one of the key components for providing high-speed Internet services. Its primary function is to act as an endpoint device located at the user's premises. However, people are often confused as to whether an ONU can Work As a Router. In this blog post, we’ll explore What is ONU, What Is Router, ONU & Router’s main usage, and What is the difference between ONU and Router. Let’s take a closer look !

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
