I have seven huge fixed width text file that I need to import to Access.
They contain headers, subtotals, etc. that are not needed. There is also
some corrupt data that we know about and can correct once the data is in
Access (or during the import process itself). Furthermore, the text files
are poorly set up, such that some records may be "shifted" over a few
characters, and therefore the fixed width nature of the file is corrupted.

I'm restarting this thread with a different focus.
The project I'm working on now id coming along and will be made to work, and
it's too late to start over with a new strategy. Still, I'm not coming to a
firm conclusion over whether it was the better approach, and wonder if I

A 'newbie' question - importing into Access from Excel. Googled the
group postings but I can't find the amswer
I have a 50 line three column file in Excel that contains Names and
Tel numbers. Each column is named to agree with the Access database.
Read the instructions "Import Excel files into an Access database".
Followed them to the letter. Everything goes well until the final
Wizard action is clicked "Import to table 'PHONEDIR'.

I have an Excel spreadsheet with 1000+ rows that I need to import into
an Access 2002 db once a month or so. I then need to use that
information to update any existing records(multiple fields may need
updating) and/or add any new records.
I figure one way is to just "brute force" it, i.e., import the
spreadsheet then run some code to do a sequential read thru the new
table and do lookups in the existing table and update whatever fields...

Hi all,
I have a problem with the issue in the subject, i have all data in one
big excel file,
in a denormalized form, and on the other side, i have mysql database
with many tables, which is already in production, and it is of course
in the 3rd NF. How do i go about importing that excel file , is there
any good tool i could use to handle prim/foreign key issues for me?

Convert them to CSV in Excel, then use TransferText (which does not
work correctly and also doesn't accept XLS/Excel files directly) or
create a link to an Excel XLS workbook and do an Append Query (as some
have suggested here)??
I find that hard to believe as Access is part of MS Office and Visual
FoxPro is not. I split my time using both and I can do a simple copy
command to XLS in VFP or an Append command to DBF or use Office...

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
