a multi user ACCESS 200 database not allowing more than two users

1 New Member
database not allowing multiusers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Background

An ACCESS database containing two tables and three forms has been installed on the network drive. Using the Tools Menu (Security Sub Menu), five users have been added to the USERS group in the database. The Users group has been assigned OPEN/RUN permission for the database object. The DEFAULT RECORD LOCKING property in the OPTIONS DIALOG BOX, and the FORM Property Record Locks are both set to edited record. The OPEN DATA BASE USING RECORD-LEVEL LOCKING is clicked in the OPTIONS DIALOG BOX.

Ms ACCESS 2000 program is loaded on each workstation which is connected to the network drive.

All the workstation did have the FULL verion of ACCESS 2000; and a runtime version of ACCESS 2000. At installation the runtime version was removed using the Add/Remove feature of WINDOWS Xp.

Problem

The database worked fine when installed, and ran fine for two days.
After a couple of days, it does not allow more than two users to access the system. If more than two persons are in it and another one tries to
open it, it will say 'locked by machine number XXX' and doesn't allow
additional users to use it at the same time.

Question

Is this some type of bug and if so, how can i fix it? or
Did I not activate some feature which I should have to allow multiuser access or
Did I cause some inconsistencies between the OPTION /SECURITY/FORM SETTINGS.

Appreciation

I am still a novice when it comes to ACCESS. Thanks in advance for any help!

I can't see what your problem would be here. But that's not unusual as if you'd known enough to know what information to post, you'd probably have resolved the problem anyway. What you did post was all good stuff, but unfortunately didn't contain any clue (at least for me) as to what your problem may be.
I can only suggest that you think about what may have happened differently after the first two days when it stopped working.

Check these settings in the advanced tab of the options box on all the computers using the database.

Default Open Mode = Shared
Default Record Locking = Edited Record

Dear All I'm after a multi-User password database so that I can centrally store system passwords and give granular access to individuals based on their own unique authentication (possibly a securID token). I've been keeping a watchful eye for such a system but to no avail ..... has anybody come across such a system? ... I'll be most grateful top hear about such a system!

(cross posted - comp.databases.ms-access, microsoft.public.access) Hello folks - this is my first post here, after a short lurk. I have written an application in Access2002 for a friend's business which allows him to take orders, arrange deliveries and trace deliveries back in the event of subsequent complaints. It uses a handful of tables in a relational schema, with a few ancillary lookup tables, some forms, reports and VBA modules.

Hi, I feel I have a good learning opportunity here. I have been asked to knock up a simple db for managing lettings of rooms and halls. I'm confident about the design but want to make it multi-user even though it's not strictly necessary right now. I've not much experience in this even though i've read the correct websites that have been listed here many times, down to tips about not using domain aggregrate functions to improve...

I'm currently using ASP.NET with VS2003 and SQL Server 2003. The ASP.NET app i have made is running on IIS v6 and consists of a number of pages that allow the user to read information from the database into classes, which are used throughout the application. I have made class collections which, upon reading from the DB, create an instance of the class and store the DB values in there temporarily. My problem is that if user1 looks at...

Hi, I'm new to Access and have been asked to develop a simple Access system to replace one that already exists. There are five users of the current Access system and each of the users works off a copy of the system on their local machines. I would like to develop my new system as a multi-user system and place it on a server to be accessed remotely by each of the users. I have read that the locking in MS Access can be hellish. Most...

I'm putting together a form meant purely to lookup values in a consolidated Access db. I've got most everything working with one small hitch - how to make the VB-generated SQL query multi-user friendly without blowing the size of the db through the stratosphere? I started out using a set named Query to test the options of the form "SearchQueryResults", but with the possibility of two users running a search at once (or even one still having...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
