Selective Edit Capability in a Subform?

JamesDC

Hey all,

I'm working with Access 2002, and I have a subform which gives access to a Table called Product_Values. This subform's purpose is to allow the user to edit the $ values of the products without having to open the background information of the database.

This table has Product ID, Product Name, and Value headings, and I want the user to only be able to edit the Value area. If a Product name is changed there could be serious side effects on the rest of the database, so getting the other fields locked is a top priority. Is there a way to lock these areas while still allowing the user the ability to edit the Value area?

Thanks,

James

You can do one of two things. Either turn off the visibility of the control that is bound to the field or you can set the locked property to yes.

I tried turning off the Visible option and it did nothing :(

Also, there does not appear to be a Lock option for these areas on the subform.

Thanks for the suggestions but they don't seem to work, or I'm just missing something :S

It should work. Open up the subform in design view and make the changes to the controls there.

Hey Rabbit,

I was looking at the subform I had on a form, not the actual subform. Thus I couldnt find the options. They're set to locked now and it's working well :)

Thanks,

James

There is an MS-SQL table named Bugs_Comments_and_Suggestions. There is a form named Bugs_Comments_and_Suggestions. To allow John Doe to use this form, we GRANT him LOGIN and ACCESS permissions to the db and SELECT permissions on the stored procedure which is the record source for the BOUND form. To allow John Doe to "UPDATE, INSERT, DELETE" using the BOUND form, we GRANT John Doe "UPDATE, INSERT, DELETE" permissions on the table,

I'm working on a BOM in Access 200 from an example downloaded from from the web. The sample database contains three tables, Assemblies (the list of items needed to assemble any assembly), Components (the list of items recognised by the Assemblies Table)and Output (a table used to display the BOM from a chosen assembly). It works fine but there are no forms. For a user to edit or create a BOM, should there be a form for each assembly of...

Hi I have a large table which I wanted to filter and then edit the selected record. I'm using a form with several pull down fields linked to lookup tables which correspond to fields in the large table. The user selects a number or category or All from the pull-down and this is used in a query, made up of the main table and the lookup tables with a suitable Iif statement to filter the query. So on the form there are several fields that...

I'm really not sure how to go about this in Access. What I've created is a table for each location. Those tables are identical in format but different in information. The tables are named after key points such as the store number and the store ID. The fields of those tables are generic fields such as sales per day, bank deposit and what not. The first field for each store table is the date and I've set that as the primary key as one...

I have a form which allows you to select a record. That record has other records asscociated with it via a table. The asscociated records of the record selected on the main form are shown in a subform. This all works fine. But then, when I try to edit a record in the subform It does not let me. I have a dropdown box, but cannot select from it... does anyone know why this is, and what I could do to fix it?

Hi Guys, I'm building a phone book application. The main form is used for searching for individuals and when you find the one you want their details are shown in a sub form. There are some details I want to be editable (is that really a word?). When I first built the app all of the tables were inside the Access2003 .mdb file and I was able to edit info in the subform. I've now moved the tables into an SQL Server 2000 database (so I'm...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
