I have a piece of code (written is Visual Studio 2005) that is only reading
the Security EventLog. On Windows XP Professiona/Home this code works just
fine.
int numberOfEntries = myEventLog.Entries.Count;
if (numberOfEntries > 0) ...
However, when run under Windows Vista I get the error "Requested registry
access is not allowed." This error occurs when the first line of code is
executed.

Hi. Not sure that this is the right place to ask but here goes.
I have an application based on access97 and VB6 which I need to
upgrade. It has to handle up to 20 concurrent users on a Win2k network
( to be upgraded to XP next year) which has no connection to the
outside world, but normally there are no more than 2. It has
approximately 150 tables with complicated validation rules and a large
amount of calculation. I want to rewrite it...

If you develop for others, you probably have multiple versions of Access
installed so you can edit and create MDEs for clients in different versions.
This works fine under Windows XP, even with Access 2007 installed.
It does *not* work under Windows Vista Ultimate. After running Access 2007,
when you open an earlier version of Access, no code works, because the
references are fouled up. And Access 97 does not work at all.
Access should...

Hello -
This is my first posting to this group, so please bear with me. Also note, that while I'm intelligent, databases are not in my field of knowledge.
I'm working with a small limousine company. They presently have about 4 networked computers, all running Windows XP (w/SP2) and Microsoft Office 2000 (specifically Access 2000) - and a plain jane p3 server also running Windows XP (w/sp2) with Office 2000 loaded onto it.
These...

Hi
Have just installed IIS7 on Vista and am trying to access a .mdb file
through ASP. Getting server error.
I think the problem is in the file permission. Under XP Pro/IIS6 is used to
have to set the .mdb file security via windows explorer to give
IUSR_machinename full permissions on this file for anonymous web access.
Cant seem to do this with Vista explorer - says object cannot be found.

Has anyone had any issues with Access 2003 with windows Vista?
Everytime i open Access i get windows installer running. When i try to

when i try to create a report from the wizard, or any other way, i can

Hi all,
So I bought a new laptop 10 days ago to test my apps with Vista. (home premium)
Apparently Office 2007 is pre-installed. (a time limited but complete test version, no SP1)
So I take the opportunity to test some new features of Access2007 before actually 'stepping over'.
First thing that troubles me of course is 'the ribbon', but my question now is about speed.
I opened one of my Access 2000-apps in Access 2007.
Speed and...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
