Customized Letters Using Reports

20 New Member
Hi All!,

I've searched the fourms but I can't find anything specific to this. I'm trying to create customized letters using a data table containing names, addresses, order numbers etc.

I want a standard letter, but I want the name, address and order number to change for each letter (e.g. Dear Mr. Jones, Dear Mr.Smith, etc). I also want to print each letter and as the letter is printing, make the changes to each letter.

Any ideas of how to get started? A general direction and a hint of code should be all I need. Thanks!

What you are referring to sounds like a Mail Merge:
__1 Select the Table containing the relevant data within the Database Window.
__2 Make sure the Database Toolbar is visible. If not View, Toolbars, Database.
__3 Click the Office Links button on the Database Toolbar.
__4 Click Merge It with MS Word.
__5 Select the appropriate Option within the Microsoft Mail Merge Wizard then OK.
__6 You should now be in a Microsoft Word Document and you can work the options in the Mail Merge Toolbar which is now visible in Word.
__7 This should give you your customized letters, 1 for each Record in your Table but you must do the actual work. e.g. Insert standard text, merge fields, etc.

Hi there The story is as follows: I write up some pretty detailed reports on people, and what I am wanting to do is speed up the process as a proportion of the reports that I am writing are quite repetitive. What I had though of was a form that you select key settings and based on that it writes out the letter in an intelligent manner: For example:

Hi Everyone, Does anyone know if it's possible to allow an end user of an Access DB to personalize the layout of their own reports. What we would like to do is allow them to select the information they want on a particular report. Say for instance if using an invoice form, some clients want to add discount columns and some don't. Is it possible to have perhaps a "Setup Form" that tells a report what information is wanted on the...

Hi: I am trying to create customized confirmation/error/etc dialogs in my application. Up to now we've been using MessageBox.Show and passing it the various necessary flags (buttons, icons, etc). By "customized", I mean I want complete control over the color of the messagebox, the position/color/size of the buttons, etc. Do I need to create a custom form from scratch, or is there a way to subclass MessageBox? (I'm guessing I need to...

Hi, I am looking for tutorials related to generating letters. If possible I would like these letters to be generated in Microsoft Word format, as that way they can be directly imported into my companies records management system. I have looked at various methods, Crystal Reports seems a little over kill for what I need, as I am only importing very basic data to the letter (name, address, title date ect), I had a breif look at word...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
