Front end application

I am currently designing a new front end for my back end database using linked tables. However, I am trying to find a way to still allow users to add/delete/modify records without having MS Access installed on their computer.

Would that be a job for a professional programmer or does MS Access have some other method of doing this? Like a way to export a form as an application or something.

Please let me know if this makes sense at all, it's much to early. I was looking at some SQL statements earlier, and could hardly understand what they meant. Just a bit tired at this time of the morning, but that is why coffee is in high demand. Haha.

Oh, and a sidenote...

I understand how to make a table with a username/pass field (haha, easy enough)

I was told to make a Login msgbox that would allow them to login if their password matches.

Simple question, how?

Currently, nothing is a high priority, just trying to get ready for the future.

On the sidenote issue - search through the Access forum for threads already done on this.

To install an Access application without Access on the machine, you would need the Runtime Library. Usually you would have to have Office Developer. There are also packages available on the web if you have a look.

I found mostly ones relating to Office Developer, along with other companies that will make a database front end application for me. Also, with the new version of office coming out, M$ has spent a great deal of cash to get their placement on the search engines... or just through sheer dominance in the area. Either/"OR"

Do you by chance know of any that offer a trial, or are entirely free? I want to give the executives here something to look at before asking them to pay for some more technology.

I am going to play around with the code you have given me on this subject and hopefully get it to work.

I always heard people saying IIS ASP front end, and MS-SQL back end. ASP is for server side programming and dynamic content generation, how could it is called front end? Because I thought it is executed in the server, which is back end? I think I am confused with the term front end and back end here. Please advise. Thanks!!

Afternoon all, Apologies for cross-posting but as my query covers both Access and SQL Server I thought I'd send it both! I have inherited a project to migrate a fairly complex series of Access databases into a single proper SQL database with a web front end. Its quite a nasty job as people are working on a variety of data sets

Hello, I am in the process of bringing my Access application to client's server, and need some help! The background is: I created application (mdb) using Access 2003 on my laptop, converted it to Access 2000 (client uses both 2000 and 2003), split it into Front End and Back End, and IT person brought Front End onto one test person's computer, and brought Back End onto MS-SQL Server 2000. Also brought copy of Front End on the server, as...

I have the application's form (MainForm) along with a 2nd form (Form2). If the user minimizes MainForm, I also minimize Form2. And when the user restores the application, I also restore Form2. But, Form2 is ending up behind MainForm. Anyone have an idea of how can I set/keep Form2 to be in front of the MainForm? And before someone suggests it, no -- I don't consider TopMost to be the solution. That will make the form the topmost...

I was asked to provide a proposal. I provided a proposal on my application and the prospective client likes what I have but is wary of it having been developed in Access. I don't understand this concern since my front-end application will be linked to a SQL SERVER backend. But there seems to be this "conventional wisdom" among IT people that Access is a toy database. Okay, let's redefine that as "Jet" is a toy database (which I don't...

My establishment has about 20 ms access db's that will be converted over (see subject). When we pull all the BE's over to SQL and the FE's on Sharepoint (.net) surely we don't have to change every user face, we should be able to use the same FE in as before as now on Sharepoint? ANSWER:

RE: Access 2003 My application has been split and the front end runs on client PCs with the back end on a LAN file server. Also I have an updater routine that copies an updated client from the LAN file server to the client PCs when needed. I keep the client front end on the LAN server for distribution purposes. The problem is that occasionally, user's get confused and go to the LAN file server and run the application from the front end...

I have deployed few Access apps splitting it in Front End and Back End. Our environment uses Win XP SP2 for clients, Win 2k3 for servers and Access 2003. The max. number of clients is about 50 (concurrent users is estimated around 10). Whilst the Back End always lives on a server, I am not quite clear where the Front End should live. I have searched the web and find contradicting views.

Since I have no expertise in any of the language I am totally helpless, how to develop a good front end. I know I can easily make a front end...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
