Datasheet View

14 New Member
Hello,

I tried looking through some of the postings to see if anyone asked these questions before but I didn’t find any. I have 3 questions and I hope someone can help me out. I will write post them separately so it’s not that long.

First I have a main form which is pulling its data from [QryDepartments]. On this form I created a command button on the form based on [QryDepartment]; this allows people to view the query in datasheet view. I know access has its own datasheet view on the menu but I wanted to create my own. The problem I am having is if I do a filter on the form and then click on the command button to see it in datasheet view, it does not show the filter. I thought since it’s based on the same query it would work. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to get this to work.

I know some of our other experts will have views on the solution to this.

However, essentially by using the forms filter features you are losing them when the form view changes to datasheet. Access probably preforms a refresh by default.

One solution would be to create your filter using code.

Hi Bface,

I have a hard time to envision the working of the filter on your form.
Personally I use an unbound (not table related) mainform and add a datasheet subform to allow my users to filter.
Check my sample at
http://www.geocities.com/nico5038/Sa...tAction-97.zip
The datasheet hold in the OnCurrent event a statement to move the applied filter on the subform to the mainform making it visible for the user.

Getting the idea ?

The proposal of Nico is good, but the default datasheet view from query also has a lot of advantages than using a form

All of my views are visualized by queries... Users do filters without problems and for them it is the best way, using datasheet /coz it is like Excel :)/

Maybe you don't want queriees coz u think that the user can see and modify the structure of your query?

I'm sure the user can't if you defend the buil-in functions in Access!

For me the query has more advantages than a form... There is advantages that i'm learning just now..

I have a form which allows both form and datasheet views. My question is, is it possible to control the field (column) names in datasheet view? What happens at the moment is that the name is taken from a control's label if there is one, and if not, the control's name is used. This is confusing for my users so I'd like to be able to use more sensible names in datasheet view. Is this possible? Many thanks. Keith.

I want to follow naming conventions for my controls - i usually prefix combo boxes with "cbo". When a form is in datasheet view however i do not want the user to see the 'cbo' prefix in front of the field name. Is there a way to retain this nomenclature and yet have the view display the field name (or anyname i want for that matter)? Thanks --

I have created a Main Switchboard in Access 2000 and it has a button which opens a Form. I have set the form Properties Default View to Datasheet and this always opens in datasheet view. When I open the Form from the Main Switchboard it always opens in form view. Can this be changed so that it always opens in Datasheet View? Terry

Hi: I have a tables in relationship to each other. When I open the main table (table 1), I see a "+" at the very left of every record. Clicking on the "+" expands the data of the linked table (table 2). Now ... when I create a form from table 1, I didn't manage show these 2 tables the same way (with the "+" at the left side of every record) as it was shown as table. Access insists of making a regular form out of table 1, but accepts...

I am trying to find out if I can have a specific record that has been selected in a list box be opened in datasheet view. I can't seem to find where this can happen or what I need to use to make it happen? Does anyone have any ideas? My list box is currently tied to an option group so that they can sort the list box in order of how they want to search for certain records. It is a maintenance form. I want the user to be able to select...

I would like to display certain columns from a table on a form. One of my columns that I want to show is a Yes/No field so that my users can pick their players for a fantasy football week. If they could use the table directly, the datasheet view allows them a check box to set yes and no for the player in that row. However, I don't want them to access the table directly. I can't find a contol that will let me use the datasheet view...

This database has no forms. I am viewing an Access table in datasheet view. I'd like to execute a macro to execute a function (using "runcode"). In the function, I'll reading data from the record the cursor was on in the datasheet at the time I executed the macro. So, the questions are: 1) In the macro, how to I get my hands on the record key or record data of the record the cursor was on in the datasheet at the time I executed the...

I'm learning Access (2002) as I go, but I can't find how to open a form from a datasheet view. I want to be able to view records in the datasheet and click on a link to open a form to allow me to update the particular record I was viewing. I've been experimenting with hyperlinks but fear I may be barking up the wrong tree. Any help appreciated.

That rather long subject says it. In Access97 running on XP - I want to display a Maximized size Form01, then open a Restore size Datasheet View Form02 on top of the first Form. PopUp won't give me Datasheet view. Dialog mode won't give me Datasheet view I could make Form01 Restore size and expand it to fill the Window in Restore size (maybe DoCmd.MoveSize Right, Down, Width, Height) - I don't want this.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
