Assume that disk space is not an issue
(the files will be small < 5k in general for the purpose of storing
preferences)
Assume that transportation to another OS may never occur.
Are there any solid reasons to prefer text files over binary files
files?

Hi folks,
Is it possible to store Binary Files in MS SQL 2000 ??? Say I have a
100K PDF or a 150K word document. Is it possible to store this in a
field in MS SQL and pull it out somehow? We're using ColdFusion on the
server on Apache.
Thanks,
Ringo

I need to read a binary file and store it into a buffer in memory (system
has large amount of RAM, 2GB+) then pass it to a function. The function
accepts input as 32 bit unsigned longs (DWORD). I can pass a max of 512
words to it at a time. So I would pass them in chunks of 512 words until the
whole file has been processed. I haven't worked with binary files before so
I'm confused with how to store the binary file into memory. What sort of...

Hey all, just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I'm
developing a solution that allows a user to store multiple text-based
content (like code snippets, notes, documents etc.) in one master document.
I'm not exactly sure which is the most efficient method of going about
this. Should I:
a. Use a container file like a CAB file and read/write separate textfiles
to it?
b. Save all "documents" in a collection and serialize...

I'm considering deploying an application that will us an IP address locaiton
database provided by Ip2location.com...
http://www.ip2location.net/ip2location-dotnet-component.aspx
their .net component reads data from a binary file. I'm guess i'm wondering
which of the two options would be best.
1) read data from the binary files (~27 mb or so)
2) or query a sql DB with the same info.

Dear all,
What are the advantages of binary files over text files? I would like
to search for a specific value of a variable in an output file, I was
doing this lately by the string library functions of the language. But
wondering the advantages of searching and reading from a binary file.
If the files get too large, I guess the advantage of reading from a
binary file is that it is much faster.

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
