Fast opening form

I'm using Access 2000 and like many of you, I use the AutoExec
macro to open my main form. The problem is that for the first few
seconds, no form is visible and the user is looking at the list of
forms or tables in the database.

It would be nice if a form popped up immediately and just said
"Database Loading" or anything besides looking at the design screen. I
tried just opening a simple form with a label on it, which would, in
turn, open my Main form. But the simple form took just as long to
open. I have also tried using Startup with the same results.

As the project is still under development, I release the .mdb
version every day.

Is there anyway I can hide the view of the design screen until
some form is ready to display?

Thanks,
Hank Reed

Many of us use the AutoExec macro to open our main form? Really? I
think I've never used an AutoExec macro for anything and I never use a
main form either.

If you go to Tools, Start you can choose a form to show on open, and
you can choose to hide the Database Window. (You can also control these
settings in VBA code.) As for the design screen, I have never seen this.

Try using the tools to display the form on open of the database instead
of launching it with the macro, then run your other macro functions in
the on open event of the form.

Why is it taking so long? What VBA references are you
using?

I have a very puzzling situation with a database. It's an Access 2000 mdb with a SQL 7 back end, with forms bound using ODBC linked tables. At our remote location (accessed via a T1 line) the time it took to go to a record was very slow. The go to mechanism was a box that the user typed the index value into a combo box, with very simple code attached: with me.RecordsetClone .FindFirst " = " & me.cboGoTo If Not .NoMatch Then Me.Bookmark...

I am creating a new database for use within our company, that I'd like to make reasonably secure (short of a true server based solution). The back-end of a non-server based database seems to be the biggest security hole, due to the ease of opening, linking, and/or importing raw data directly from the back-end database. I've read information that indicates that locking down the back-end tables to the owner, then using RWOP queries in the...

Hi all, I am deploying an A2k app to users with different versions of Access. Using Access 2000 the relinking on startup (on deploying a new frontend or when backend has changed) is very fast. It takes about 4-5 seconds to relink some 50 tables. (I am relinking, not refreshing) Using Access 2003 the relinking is very slow compared with Access 2000. Now It takes about 1,5 to 2 minutes !! to relink the same 50 tables. I am testing...

Hello, Is there a way of opening an Access form without opening the Access window? Right now when I open the form, the Access window is a lot bigger than the form so I have to resize the Access window so it doesn't take up my whole screen (the form is about 2" x 3"). If there is no way to open only the form without the Access window opening, is there a way to automatically set the size of the Access window and close the menu bar?\ Thanks!

This could be a difficult one, so please bear with me. I've an assembly containing Delphi 2006.NET forms. A C# app, via reflection opens these forms . This works fine - I've a C# app, opening Delphi 2006.NET forms. Some of these forms are MDI Child forms. Exceptions are thrown - "Cannot create form - No MDI Forms are currently active" when the C# app tries to open one of these.

Hi all Short version of my problem: i have a Datagrid (Flexgrid from ComponentOne) with a Datatable as source. I need to search a row in the datatable, using a primary key column in the datatable, and then figure out wich row this currently is in the Datagrid. This should probably be done using the currency manager for speed reasons. For the live of me, i can't figure out how to locate the row very fast

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
