I want to get an ASP.Net hosting account with my ISP, and I'm trying
to find out what level of access to the server is requried in order
for me to view the server in Server Explorer in Visual Studio .Net,
where you can see the available database, expand it to get a list of
tables, etc. What level of access is required? Of course you need to
have an account with the right user rights, but is there some specific
service that needs to be...

Using an MS A2K front end running on WinXP and ODBC connections to SQL
Server 7 on Win 2K server; there are about 10 users who access the
front end via Terminal Server and use the same front end; there are
about another 10 users who run a copy of the db on their local machine.
SQL server has 2 databases, with approx. 20 tables between them (one
is for processing ckts from a remote sql server for local use, the
other is a site database).

Hi,
I have an application that uses MS-SQL Linked tables. I have a utility
routine that drops all links and re-establishes them. It works great
when my connection string is a DSN connection but I would like to
change it to DSN-Less so users don't have to set up ODBC connections on
each workstation.
If I use the following DSN

I have an Access 2000 front-end pointing at a SQL Server backend, with
around 80 linked tables and views. I frequently need to point the
front-end at different versions of the back-end, and achieve this by
relinking the tables and views to use a different DSN.
I use the Linked Table Manager > Select All > and tick the 'always
prompt for a new location' box, then click OK. It correctly pops up
the 'select data source' box, from which I...

In Visual Studio .Net 2002 Server Explorer, if I add a new connection
under "Data Connections", I can specify a remote server name and the
username and password that I want to use, but then when the database
appears, if I right-click on "Tables", there's no option to add a new
table.
If I right-click "Servers" in Server Explorer instead and add a new
server on my local intranet, I can browse its SQL Server databases,
and under each...

We use Access 97. We are in the process of migrating to 2003 along
with SQL in most cases. We have a production database that contains a
pretty important table and we would like to know which other databases
on our network link to this table.
The reason is because we plan to add/remove certain fields in this
table when we put it in SQL but we would like to know ahead of time
which databases will be affected by this.
I seem to...

Hello all!
Scenario:
- web server at one location (domain) with VS 2003
- SQL server at a remote location (domain)
- VPN connection on port 1433 between the two domains
I have no troubles reaching the remote SQL server either from SQL Enterprise
manager or in VS 2003 design-time (using the SQL authentication in both
cases) - all the connections work and I can preview data while building

I am developing C# win form app to work with remote database on SQL
Server 2005. Problem scenario is as follows:
1. a form is open that has downloaded dataset to local cache
2. computer is put into stand-by or hibernation
3. later, computer is brought out of stand-by or hibernation
4. when trying to save or close form, SQL exception comes up
(remote system closed conn)
I know this relates to connection pooling, but I am having a...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
