4k Table limit

Hi,
I was wondering how the 4k table record limit is counted. I have access
2k. I text fields are 256 chars. Memo fields are not included in the
calculation. What about yes/no fields would that be just 1 char? also
integers they are probably not included either?

I just need to make sure none of my tables exceeds the limit.

Not sure where you got that "4k" table limit in Access. Access 97-2003
limits each data table to 255 fields, and each field (except memos -64k) to
255 characters.

BTW, no well designed database will have a table anywhere approaching those
limits.

Text fields are variable length, there is still a storage limit for the
entire record, not sure what it is, prolly 4K like the OP says.

Right you are. I should have remembered the unicode limit.
Here are the official MS specs for Access tables:

Maximums--
Number of characters in a table name 64
Number of characters in a field name 64
Number of fields in a table 255
Number of open tables 2048; the actual number may be less because of tables
opened internally by Microsoft Access
Table size 2 gigabyte minus the space needed for the system objects
Number of characters in a Text field 255
Number of characters in a Memo field 65,535 when entering data through the
user interface;
1 gigabyte of character storage when entering data programmaticall y
Size of an OLE Object field 1 gigabyte
Number of indexes in a table 32
Number of fields in an index 10
Number of characters in a validation message 255
Number of characters in a validation rule 2,048
Number of characters in a table or field description 255
Number of characters in a record (excluding Memo and OLE Object fields) when
the UnicodeCompress ion property of the fields is set to Yes 4,000
Number of characters in a field property setting 255
