Porting a split database.....

I have a split database (Access 2003).

Now I need to port the database to the end-users' computer for a
demonstration. When I try to start up the database on the other
computer, it tells me that it cannot find the back-end database.

How do I tell the the "front-end" database where to locate the
"bank-end" DB that contains the actual tables on a computer other than
the one on which it was developed?

Thanks

Either:
- use the same path names exactly on both computers
- use the built-in link manager in Access to update the links
- delete the linked tables and relink them
- use code to check the links when the program starts and prompts the
user for the location of the data, then it relinks the tables

Hi all; A few years ago, I set about porting a PHP application from MySQL to PostgreSQL, after realizing that MySQL wasn't going to be able to handle it. In order to do this, I built a light, fast database abstraction layer which conforms to the behavior of the MySQL functions in PHP. This means that a large amount of porting work could be...

Hi, I'm quite sure if this newsgroup is suitable for my question but I'll give it a try. I'd like to port an application of mine which is currently just curses driven to a guish one. In C++, there is a compelling reason to recreate projects for the VS2005 compiler rather than simply copy and recompile older code (reason being C++/CLI syntax). I'm wondering if there is any reason to do the same with C# code. Does a newly created project have any differences in compiler switches when compared to a ported VS2003 project?

No reply on my previous query, so I'll post this again. I've done a bit more research in the interim. I'm trying to find an easy way to port code from the older VS2003 format to the format used in VS2005. VS2005 uses partial classes to split off the compiler-generated sections of forms. It keeps the editable files uncluttered. I...

If server 01 running HADR in the primary role crashes, and the DBA does a HADR takeover by force on the 02 server to switch roles, then the 02 server is now the primary. What happens when the Server 01 is brought back up? It still thinks it is the primary because that was its role when it crashed and it does not know about the takeover by...

I am working on a database in ACCESS 2003. This is a simple DB with only one table. I have split the DB so I can upgrade and debug the front end before installing on my clients' computer. I used the ACCESS splitter utility and everything appeared to go OK. If I run "Copy of DB_be.mdb" I see only the table, not the Queries or Forms. When I...

Hi. I'd like to port a Perl function that does something I don't know how to do in Python. (In fact, it may even be something that is distinctly un-Pythonic!) The original Perl function takes a reference to an array, removes from this array all the elements that satisfy a particular criterion, and returns the list consisting of the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
