Security when spliiting access database between fron end nad backend

I have an access 2000 database which has several levels of security
defined, i.e., certain users can only see certain forms, run certain
reports.
I am splitting this database in front end and back end. I want to
move back end to Oracle. I don't now where security is stored
in Access.

Will access users see only he forms/reports hey have been authorized
after the move to Oracle. I can limit database access
to Oracle by creating different Oracle users, but my question
is what happens to front end security after the split.
Thanks,

Prem

It stays w/ the front-end. Be sure to retain the .mdw file you
created/used when you created the user-security settings.

S**t for brains strikes again! Why did I do that? When I met the clients and at some point they vaguely asked whether eventually would it be possible to have some people who could read the data and some who couldn't but that it wasn't important right now. And I said, 'sure, we can do that later'. So now I've developed an app without any thought to security and am trying to apply it afterwards. Doh!, doh! and triple doh!

Further to 'Security - more complex than I thought' Has anybody ever seen any studies? Or anecdotal evidence? Done any studies themselves? Done any lab testing - you know - 10 users asked to get past Access (or other) security? It'd be interesting to know. And no, I don't have any prejudices. Yours, Mike MacSween

Hello, I have a problem that I was hoping to get some assistance with. I have built a split database (back end with all the tables and a password to protect the information & a front end to link to it). I have followed the Access Security model to create security over my Front End database (create a new workgroup, remove the admin user from the admins group, change permissions on the users group to very limited access etc).

Hi all. I've been getting my head around user-level security, and pretty much have the hang of how to give defined access to different users. However I normally implement using and MDE for the FE,on a local machine and an MDB for the backend on a server drive. I intend to have a local mdw file on the local install directory, and use the command line parameters of the shortcut to point the database file to this file, when starting up. I...

I have read many long articles in this group about securing my database for distribution. This is the advise I have taken: 1. Hardcoded the purchasing company's name into the program. The limitations are that the company can't get a instant download as I need to manually code their name. That's fine for now. 2. Make both the front and the backend databases MDE. This protects my code.

Hi there. I'm working on an application that currently uses DAO to connect to an Access 97 database. The database is created by and used exclusively by the product to store search results and statistics during the product's operation. The number of searches stored in one database vary a lot (one user might only do 100 whilst another might do 1 million). Once the search results have been stored, the product provides a

I'm working on a database for a local business that requires different security for different individuals. There is one PC at the front desk and several individuals will be working with the database throughout the day. I haven't worked with the Access Security wizard but have this question - will different individuals be able to sign on and off of the database on this PC without logging on to the PC itself? That is to say, will the...

First, I feel somewhat embarrassed and apologetic that this post is lengthy, but in an effort to furnish sufficient information (as opposed to too little information) to you, I wanted to supply all of the relevant facts. Second, despite the fact that I think the obvious 'quick' answer to my question would be 'Yes', I am seeking your wisdom and recommendation to the question as to this particular set of circumstances. I have 20 Security...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
