Hi..I am arun and Thanks to all of you in advance for solving my
problem...
I am working as a quality co-op for Maytag and I have developed a
defect tracking database using access and VBA. It looks good and its
performance is good.
My problem is in data accessing and the size of the tables.
1. More than 15 people are going to access the database.
2. There are 5 lines and there are 3 stations in each line entering
data.
3. There are 3 Quality engineers, 5 manufacturing Engg, 3 lean sigma
guys and 3 directors (not mentioning the team leaders, supervisors and
co-ops) accessing the queries.
4. I have one main table for data entry and 2 more small tables for
other stuff. From these 3 tables, I take data for my queries.
5. 15 people access the main table for data entry simultaneously (5
lines, 3 stations each line).
6. So, I decided to have 15 differant database with same underlying
structure. Then each and every one of the engineers, team leaders,
supervisors and Directors having their own FE and accessing the tables
by the LINKED TABLES concept. IAM YET TO DO THIS STEP.
7. My question is whether this is the right method to do it?
8. Every production line has 150 enteries a day...so we are talking
about 540k records for an year....
9. Please advice me on my data base design...Mainly on my table
design. whether i should have 15 different tables of the same dsign
and then link them to the FE or create temp MDB etc
Please start with some general comments and advices and I will explore
those comments and will go deeper... 1 1496 ar******@rediff mail.com (Arun) wrote: My problem is in data accessing and the size of the tables. 1. I'd put these in one table.

Not too much of a problem.

You should really, really have one MDB with a FE for each workstation.
If you find you are getting a lot of locking issues with everyone entering new
records then you might want to consider using a temp tables for the duration of the
data entry and then append those records to the main table at periodic intervals.
However you really won't know this until the folks start using the system in volume.

I changed from Access97 to AccessXP and I have immense performance
problems.
Details:
- Access XP MDB with Jet 4.0 ( no ADP-Project )
- Linked Tables to SQL-Server 2000 over ODBC
I used the SQL Profile to watch the T-SQL-Command which Access ( who
creates the commands?) creates and noticed:

I am about to completely lose what is left of my poor mynd! The historical
dissertation gets rather verbose, so I hope you can wade through it all. I
really need some help on this one or I'm looking at rewriting all my hard
work in something else (wasting probably a month or more).
(If you want to run and hide now, the error message is "The decimal field's
precision is too small to accept the numeric you attempted to add." I
haven't yet...

I have ODBC linked tables to a SQL 7 database in an A2K database. The linked
tables do not have the password stored in them, so the first time the user
accesses them, they need to enter the SQL password.
I am developing a process that will automatically run at night which will
access those tables. I need to be able to give Access the password, as the
user currently does, so that the process can run without a password prompt
appearing....

I am using Access 2003 and are linking to an Oracle 9i ODBC datasource
(using Oracle ODBC drivers). After linking the tables in Access, I inspect
the data contained in the linked tables. For tables that involve a number
field as the primary key, the data is returned successfully. For tables
that involve a character field (e.g. CHAR(3) or VARCHAR(10)) as the primary
key, I have the correct number of rows returned, but the data displayed...

Hello there.
I have a question somewhat related to this topic, and I don't know
where else to go. I hope somebody can help. I've created a database
in access, that I'd like to share with less than 10 users. I'd like
each user to see only some of the records in the database. So for
example, if I have eight users in eight countries, I want each of them
to only see information for their country.
I was told that the easiest way to do...

Hi all, I have posted this in both the c# and asp.net groups as it applies
to both (apologies if it breaks some group rules).
I am making a web app in asp.net using c#. This is the first fully OO
application I will be making, also my first .NET application, so im looking
for any help and guidance.
Ok, my problems are todo with object and database abstraction, what should i
do.

Hello,
This is the first time I use a database program. I am trying to build a
product database. Each product will have an ID number, a description, and a
photograph. I need the table to display the photographs of the items, so
that I can visually spot the item that I am looking for. Please let me know
if it is possible to have pictures in the tables, and if not, what should I
do? Maybe Access is the wrong tool for this task. Maybe...

I'm having trouble here with Access 2007 and connecting to a different
database.
The code below works great IF the previous back-end database connection is
still present and you are trying to connect to a new location (ie: datapath
variable below).
However, if you remove or even rename the old database, then launch your
program, the code fails on the mytable.refreshlink line with an error 3044.
(Description of that error is: 'C:\pc

This program follows from the section 6.5 of K&R2 where authors created a
doubly-linked list using a binary-tree based approach. The only thing I
have rewritten myself is the getword function. I am using it because there
are many concepts involved in this program that I want to understand like:
1.) degree of efficiency of this program as compared to sort using hash-table
based approach.
2.) Keeping the program well structured so...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
